Welcome to AC1000, Research Methods. This course is part of the PhD in Addictions Counseling at Breyer State University. It is a 6-hour semester course that must be completed within 10 weeks.
The textbook for this course is:
Book 1: Research Methods in Clinical Psychology: an Introduction for Students and Practitioners, 2nd edition. Chris Barker, Nancy Pistrang and Robert Elliott. John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 2005: ISBN # 0-471-49089.
The assignments will each count 25% of your final grade. The final exam will account for the remaining 25%. Please note that assignments will be graded on content. However, at this level, grammatical and spelling errors are UNACCEPTABLE and will count against you. Please be sure you present papers that are appropriate for doctoral level work.
Overall,
90-100% will correspond to an A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
Below 70 will be a failing grade.
Having said all that, hello! My name is Alessia Genziana Lay. I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University in Chicago. I also hold an MA in Counseling and a BS in Psychology from St. Lawrence University. I am currently living in Italy, which is where I am originally from.

This course will cover topics in research methods in the field of psychology. There are two main objectives for this course:
1). Provide you with information designed to make you more educated/aware when reading about research in the literature. Understanding the foundations of research methods will allow you to understand both the positive and problematic aspects of current research. You will be able to read articles in both professional journals and conventional media with a new critical eye.
2). Provide you with a solid foundation for understanding the diverse methods of research in our field. At the end of the course, you should feel confident about designing and carrying out a number of different types of research projects.
