Designing Surface Anatomy in Structural Techniques
The following textbook is required for this course.
Book 1: Drawing the Head and Figure. Jack Hamm. The Putnam Publishing Group:1963. ISBN # 0-399-50791-4.
Video 1: Anatomy and Proportion in Sculpting the Head, Video. Karan A Schneider Collections, copyright 2003.
You will be using a pre-made form for the bust that will fit onto a wood base. There are a variety of sculpting tools that can be used. You may use the ones you have or you may purchase the ones I sell. Two of them are dental tools I have buffed on a sander to suit the needs of the scale to be working in. The other is a lace-draping tool from a ceramic shop. A scalpel with a very pointed end is needed. I sell all four of these tools, pre-made form and the wooden base, of which some of these may be seen at my website. http://karansautomata.bizland.com/
Other items needed are dull cote matte spray (by Testor paint), various size brushes, prisma color pencil—blue mediteranean PC1022, acrylic paints, clear glaze and sculpey polymer clay.
You may get most of these items at your local craft or hobby store order online at:

This course focuses on the anatomy and proportions of the human features. The material for this course is provided in the book “Drawing the Head and Figure.” This will be refered in the video for you to sculpt the bust of your head.
For this textbook there will be a Learning Portfolio all of which are answered as you study the textbook. You will work on the Learning Portfolio as you progress in your textbook.
You will receive a pass/fail on the Learning Portfolios and a letter grade on the one comprehensive final exam based on the following scale:
90–100% = A
80-89% = B

Below 70% = Fail
You must receive a letter grade of C or higher to successfully complete the program.
The course begins on the date of your enrollment. You have 90 days to complete each course. Extensions are rarely granted, and then, only for extreme emergencies or active military duty. If you don’t complete the course within the 90-day time frame, you will receive an “incomplete/withdrawal” and will have to re-register and pay tuition again if you desire to complete it.
