Welcome to Addictive Behaviors & Disorders, a Masters level course for the Master in addiction counseling Psychology. I am please to instruct you in this course, which will be a vital course for the remainder of your studies in the Masters Program.
This Course considers the assessment diagnosis and treatment of addictive behaviors, including substance abuse. In it we will seek understanding of the dynamics of the many types of addictions and consider professional strategies for change.
This course is a four-semester hour course. The course is allotted up to ten weeks and all requirements must be completed up to the ten weeks. If you end the course before, that is fine.
One textbook is required for this course.
Book 1: Substance Abuse Counseling, 3rd Edition. (2002), Judith A. Lewis, Robert Q. Dana, & Gregory A. Blevins. Brooks/Cole. ISBN#: 0534364284.
You are required to write a 4-page summary for each chapter. This summary is to be APA style using at least three sources from the book/or chapter. Finally you are to do a Case Study of someone that is an addict: alcoholic/or drug abuse and give in detail the behaviors, culture, gender, and mental health issues how they have changed towards their recovery. This is your Final Exam.
91-100% = A
81-90% = B
71-80% = C
Below 70% = Failed

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
1). Become familiar with the main issues, questions and terminology found in the field f addictions.
2). Develop some basic biological understanding in the field of addictions.
