SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Addictions Counseling and Interventions, a Masters level course for the Master in Addiction counseling Psychology. I am please to instruct you in this course, which will be a vital course for the remainder of your studies in the Masters Program.

This Course provides introduces the concept of intervention and provides guidance towards it. It also shows you how to assess questions that will help family and friends how to effectively intervene.

TIME FRAME: This course is a four-semester hour course. The course is allotted up to 15 weeks and all requirements must be completed up to the 15 weeks. If you end the course before, that is fine.

TEXTBOOK: One textbook is required for this course.

EXAMINATIONS: You will have one final exam for this course which must be taken by the tenth week of this course. It will be composed of 50 questions which will be multiple choice or true/false in nature. You are to summarize each chapter APA Style. No more than 3 pages long when summarizing each chapter. You may use four sources from the chapter/or book. you are to do a 5 page report case study on how they can help someone intervene who is to use strategies on how to deal with the intervention process.

GRADING:

91-100%    = A
81-90%      = B
71-80%      = C
Below 70% = Failed

COMMUNICATION: You are encouraged to communicate with me via-email and/or the "Chat" room.

ASSIGNMENTS: Read the Chapter's in the book.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1). Become familiar with the details, what service processes can be used in the assessment process.
2). To gain a greater knowledge of the broad range of counseling techniques and interventions.
3). To develop one's own working counseling techniques and interventions recovery toolbox.
4). Develop insights into alcoholism and other drug addictions.
5). Develop an understanding of family responses.
6). Become familiar on how to prepare an intervention.
7). Become familiar with the intervention process.
8). Become familiar with the After part of the intervention.
9). Develop insights on costs for interventions.
10). Becoming familiar with what science has learned about the genetics of addiction.
