SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course provides a study of the basic concepts of federal income taxation as applied to individuals. It covers the relevant codes and regulations as they pertain to individual taxpayers. You will learn how to compute Gross Income and the deductions allowed to arrive at Taxable Income. Topics covered include income inclusions and exclusions, deductions, property transactions, capital gains and losses, and tax credits.

TEXTBOOK: There is one required textbook for this course.

EXAMS: There is a midterm and final exam. The mid-term exam will cover chapters 1,2,3,4,5,6, and 7. The final will cover chapters 8,9,10,14,15, and 16.

Exams are required to be completed timely. Exams which are not completed within the time frame will not be accepted.

GRADING SYSTEM: This is an eight week course. The following scale consists of the assignments to be completed for credit:

1). Quizzes     - 10%
2). Homework - 30%
3). Midterm     - 30%
4). Final          - 30%

GRADING SCALE: The following scale is used fore this course.

90-100%   = A
80-89%     = B
70-79%     = C
69-69%     = D
Below 59%= Fail

E-LECTURES, REVIEW PROBLEMS AND QUIZZES: For each chapter you will be required to read E-Lectures, complete a Review Problem and take an Interactive Quiz.

Please select either the E-Lecture, or Review Problem, or Interactive Quiz on the bar located at the top of the screen.

The Interactive Quiz provides a place for you to send the results of this quiz to me. Please email me the results when you are finished at the e-mail address provided.

COMMUNICATIONS: You should contact me as soon as you are ready to start the course. You should make sure that you have the book for the course. After you receive your course book, you and I should agree upon a start date for you. Homework is always due on Mondays. The course will begin the first Monday after the agreement.

It is my policy to check e-mail address a minimum of every other day from Monday through Friday.
