SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Administrative Office Procedures, an Associates Level course in the curriculum for the Associates Degree in Office Information Technology. It is my pleasure to be your instructor for this course. This course will provide extensive insight into the world of administrative office procedures.

The administrative professional in today's workforce has adapted to some major changes over the years. Some of the changes include: changes in technology, increase in workforce diversity, and the ever increasingly global economy. As we will see through out this course, these changes have made the job of the administrative professional even more important, and rewarding.

The course will provide an overview of today and tomorrow's workplace, how to effectively communicate, technology in the workplace, and overall administrative procedures. This will be an exciting learning experience for all of you.

TIMEFRAME: This is a five-semester hour course. This course is allotted 10 weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the 10 week period. The first day will of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived and you are ready to begin. You must be aware of the time frame; it is rare to allow extensions of time. If you need an extension, it must be justified. Once the course is completed successfully, you will receive five semester hours of credit.

TEXTBOOK: There is one (1) textbook for this course.

EXAMS: There are two examinations for this course, a mid-term and a final exam. The mid-term will cover Part 1 through Part 3 of the text. The final will cover the remainder of the book, Part 4 through Part 6.

Please note, the mid-term must be taken by the end of the 5th week in the course. The final must be taken by the end of the 10th week in the course.

Both exams are programmed and are located in the classroom for this course. The exam is open book. You will have one (1) day to complete your exam, once you log into the classroom. To access the exam you must send me an email and request to have the exam. I will then program your access in. You will receive an email back from me telling you are now authorized to go ahead and to access your exam. To access, you will come into the classroom, click on testing, and click on the exam you are taking. You will need your USERNAME and PASSWORD to access the exam. The exam will appear on the screen. Once you access the exam you have 24 hours to submit your answers. The program provides me the exact date and time that you submit your answers. The program is timing you. When you are ready, go back into the classroom click in your responses and click submit. Shortly, you will receive the exam email with your computed score. You will also know what questions, if any, that you missed and the correct answer. I also receive a copy of your exam and score.

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
Below 70% = Fail

COMMUNICATION: You are encouraged to communicate with me. I am available as a teacher, coach, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. Primary communication is through email. Our classroom also has available a chat room. I can meet with you one on one at your request. During the course, we will have some scheduled group chat sessions. More detailed information will follow at the time any chat session is scheduled. If at anytime during this course your email changes, please notify me ASAP.

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS: There are no written assignments due to the amount of reading.

COURSE ACCELERATION: It is permissible for you to accelerate in this course. You can choose to take the mid-term prior to the 5th week of the course, or 10th week for the final exam. Please just notify me when you are ready for an exam. It is not necessary to accelerate through the course, just an option.
