Our online distance education program offers students the opportunity to study a comprehensive curriculum in the American Studies degree program. Studying American culture past and present not only gives students the critical thinking skills that are invaluable in an ever-changing world but they learn about the cultures that make America great.   The ability to understand and explain cultural diversity is a highly demanded skill by all employers.

Through this program students will learn the skills needed to succeed in this field. All of the courses are focused on the major. This allows students to maximize their learning in the core courses and succeed in their educational and career goals.

Students begin with America historical influences and the immigrant experience. In the higher division courses students select a specialty track that focuses on one of the American Studies field, and students then complete a comprehensive project. This research project allows students to explore and research an individual area of American Studies where the student can explore their own personal interests.   Several career fields this degree will prepare you for are:

* Museum Administrator
* History Instructor/Consultant
* Cultural Diversity Counselor
* Organizational Consultant

The perquisites for this program are: a high school diploma or an earned GED

The online curriculum offers an innovative approach to higher education. Enrollment is open and students may begin the program at any time. All courses are provided in online classrooms, with on-to-one faculty mentoring. Students also have free access to our comprehensive Study Tactics and Resources Center, with links to subject related websites, online libraries, articles and research assistance. Our online American Studies curriculum includes:

1. AMR 100 American Historical Influences 8 hrs
2. AMR 110 The Immigrant Experience: Searching for American Identity 10 hrs
3. AMR 120 Images of Class and Power 8 hrs

20th Century American History

1. AMR 300 The Industrial Age 6 hrs
2. AMR 330 The Fifties 6 hrs

4. AMR 370 Subcultures in America 6 hrs

American Sociology

1. AMR 400 Femininity in America 6 hrs
2. AMR 440 Masculinity in America 6 hrs
3. AMR 460 American Family Constructs 6 hrs
4. AMR 480 Sexual Behavior in American History 6 hrs

TOTAL: 110 Semester Hours

Courses in this curriculum are to be taken in sequence as above.

TUITION: $400.00 per course

Students may register and pay for one course at a time.

* Note: cost of tuition does not include cost of text books.

** There is also a one time $50.00 admission processing fee.

Course Completion Times: Students are permitted 10 weeks to complete an online course. This may be extended with the permission of the instructor. For all Symposium Courses, students are permitted up to a six month period for completion. Doctoral students are permitted one year for all Dissertation/Doctoral Project courses.

TRANSFER CREDITS & EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CREDITS: Up to fifty percent of the degree may be earned by transfer credits from other schools and/or application for the award of experiential learning credits.
