Our online distance education program offers students the opportunity to study a comprehensive curriculum in the Nursing degree program. Today's environment of health care has created a growing need for professional nurses with a bachelor's degree. Breyer State’s Nursing Degree by Competency Exam program provides the knowledge necessary to challenge nurses to further their professional education and expand their career opportunities.  This program broadens the career choices for registered nurses to include management, leadership, research and teaching positions. The BSN also offers the opportunity for them to further their education at the master's and doctorate level.

Through this program students will learn the skills needed to succeed in this field. All of the courses are focused on the major. This allows students to maximize their learning in the core courses and succeed in their educational and career goals.

Students begin with nursing theory, nursing foundations, life span assessment, acute and chronic care, health promotions and ethical dilemmas. In the higher division courses students study community care, trans-cultural nursing, nursing leadership, issues in nursing and lastly nursing research.   Please note: This program is not N.L.N. accredited.

The prerequisites for this program are: a Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse.

The online curriculum offers an innovative approach to higher education. Enrollment is open and students may begin the program at any time. All courses are provided in online classrooms, with on-to-one faculty mentoring. Students also have free access to our comprehensive Study Tactics and Resources Center, with links to subject related websites, online libraries, articles and research assistance. Our online Nursing degree curriculum includes:

1. NRS 300 Nursing Theory & Foundations 5 hrs
2. NRS 320 Nursing Assessment Across the Life Span 7 hrs
3. NRS 350 Ethical Dilemmas in Nursing Practice 5 hrs
4. NRS 380 Acute and Chronic Care I 10 hrs
5. NRS 390

Acute and Chronic Care II

10 hrs
6. NRS 410 Health Promotion 5 hrs
7. NRS 420 Community Health Care 5 hrs
8. NRS 450 Transcultural Nursing 5 hrs
9. NRS 460 Nursing Leadership 5 hrs
10. NRS 470 Professional Issues in Nursing 5 hrs
11. NRS 490 Nursing Research 10 hrs

TOTAL: 72 Semester Hours of Upper Division Nursing Credits. Students who are accepted into the program receive 52 hours of lower division nursing credits. Upon graduation students are awarded the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing with a total of 124 semester hours of credit.

Courses in this curriculum are to be taken in sequence as above.

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse is required for admission to the bachelors nursing     degree program.
2. A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience is required for admission.
3. Upon official enrollment, students take the eleven (11) competency examinations as
    above. Students may elect to review for the examinations. Students who receive a
    a passing score of 70% or above, receive full credit for the course. Upon successful
    completion of all eleven competency examinations, students are conferred the
    degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
4. Students must provide official transcripts verifying graduation from a diploma
    program in nursing or an Associate Degree Program to qualify for admission.
5. All examinations are "timed" and taken online.
6. There are no traditional courses to complete for the nursing degree.
7. Upon official enrollment, students are provided with information regarding references
    and recommended resources for reviewing and preparing for the examinations.
8. There are no clinical examinations. All examinations are written.
9. Once a student registers for a competency examination, they have 90 days in which to
    schedule the examination. Full instructions for taking the examinations are provided
    upon official acceptance and enrollment into the degree program.
10. Competency examinations are objective type.
11. Students have five (5) years from the date of acceptance to complete the eleven (11)
      examinations. There are no residency requirements and no clinical components.
12. There is a one-time admissions fee of $50.00. There is also a one-time transcripts
      evaluation fee of $100.00 for transfer and award of lower division nursing courses
      semester hours of credits.

TUITION: $400.00 per course. Students may register and pay for one examination at a time.
