SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course provides a study of business law. It is virtually impossible to cover this entire textbook in one class, however, this is a textbook that you should keep for future reference. I have, therefore, concentrated on the areas in which I think, as business majors, you will be most confronted with. This course will focus primarily on Contracts and we will address Negotiable Instruments, Secured Transactions, Cyberlaw and Professional Liability of Accountants and other Professionals.

TEXTBOOK: There is one required textbook for this course.

Book 1: West’s Business Law, Eighth Edition By Clarkson, Miller, Jentz, Cross: ISBN# 324303904.

EXAMS: There is a midterm and final exam. The mid-term exam will cover chapters 1, 9,10,11,12,13, 14 and 15. The final will cover chapters 16,17,18,24,28 and 51.

Exams are required to be completed timely. Exams which are not completed within the time frame will not be accepted.

GRADING SYSTEM: This is a eight week course. The following scale consists of the assignments be completed for credit:

1). Quizzes     - 10%
2). Homework - 30%
3). Midterm     - 30%
4). Final          - 30%

GRADING SCALE: The following scale is used fore this course.

90-100%   = A
80-89%     = B
70-79%     = C
69-69%     = D
Below 59%= Fail

E-LECTURES, REVIEW PROBLEMS AND QUIZZES: For each chapter you will be required to complete a Homework Assignment and take an Interactive Quiz.

COMMUNICATIONS: You should contact me as soon as you are ready to start the course. You should make sure that you have the book for the course. After you receive your course book, you and I should agree upon a start date for you. Homework is always due on Mondays. The course will begin the first Monday after the agreement.

It is my policy to check e-mail address a minimum of every other day from Monday through Friday.
