SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to BUS 711- E-Business Symposium , a masters level course in the curriculum for the degree, Master of Business Administration. I am pleased to instruct you in this course, which will be the capstone course for the Master of Business Administration program with an E-Business specialization.

This course will provide you with the opportunity to research an approved topic related to E-Business research. Businesses stay one step ahead of the competition by becoming more efficient, and utilizing cutting edge technologies. How do these businesses know what cutting edge technology is? Let's find out. I am pleased to be the Instructor for this symposium.

TIME FRAME: This is a fifteen-semester hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded fifteen semester hours of credit.

EXAMINATIONS: There are no examinations for this course. You will submit a research paper by the end of the 10th week.  

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
Below 70% = Fail  

COMMUNICATION: You are encouraged to communicate with me. I am available as a teacher, coach, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. Primarily, communication is through email. However, I am also available for conversation by telephone if you would like. Our classroom for this course has a "chat" room. I am also very willing to meet with you one-on-one in the chat room at your request. From time to time, depending on how many students are enrolled in this course at a particular time, we will have some scheduled group chats. You will receive more detailed information at the time such chat sessions are scheduled. Please keep my email address handy so that you can contact me. If at any time during this course you change your email address, please be sure to notify me right away.

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS: There are three written assignments for this course.

1). Submit a research pre-proposal. (Due by the end of Week 1) You will select a topic of current interest in E-Business research and development and write a research pre-proposal on their topic area. The research pre-proposal must comply with APA formatting guidelines. The purpose of the research pre-proposal is to allow you to select an appropriate course topic and to begin investigating the topic. The topic must be approved by me prior to research pre-proposal submission.

2). Literature Review. (Due by the end of Week 5) You will write a literature review based on the course topic submitted in the pre-proposal. The review of literature will be at least 5 single-spaced pages in length and contain no less than 10 peer-reviewed journal articles cited. An example is available upon request.

3). Topic Paper. (Due by the end of Week 10) You will submit a research paper on the topic area covered in the literature review. This paper will consist of the literature review previously submitted as the foundation for the research paper. The paper will be a minimum of 10 single-spaced pages in length. The maximum font size to be used is 12 pt. The topic paper will be evaluated on thoroughness, completeness and your analysis and understanding of the topic.  

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: I, Scott G. Hammond, PhD (candidate), MBA, BA, BS, currently teach graduate courses at Breyer State University. I hold a degree in Masters in Business Administration, one in Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and one in Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. I have owned and operated my own consulting business for nine years. I am an avid salt-water fisherman.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1). Understand the breath and scope of E-Business concepts.
2). Understand current topics of research in E-Business.
3). Gain in-depth understanding of a specific area of research in the area of E-Business.
