Welcome to BUS 830, a doctoral level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Doctor of Philosophy in International Business. I am pleased to offer you this course, which will cover International Law.
Many business experts believe that a business can no longer remain domestic in this day and age of technology. Whenever a political or economic change occurs, it affects the entire world. For example: How did the latest war in Iraq affect the international stock exchanges? What does that do to a company conducting business abroad? Another example to site would be when interest rates change in Japan and how that affects the flow of world investments. These concerns must be constantly addressed by a firm conducting business in a global environment.
The International Law course will involve a fairly comprehensive approach to three main forms of international business:
1). Foreign investments.
2). Laws of international trade.
3). Intellectual property.
It is the intent in this course to present this material of market-entry methods starting with trade issues. These specific issues are often seen to involve the least penetration into foreign markets. Another area that will be addressed in this course is that of foreign investments. This is important due to international corporations immersing exclusively into the cultural, social, and legal systems of the host country.
Important elements of international business that will be discussed in this course are: trade law, legal environments, regulations, and commercial transactions. The student in this course will be introduced to the differences between domestic and international laws. Questions will be addressed throughout the course as to customs, disputes, cultural and language barriers, risks, currency fluctuations, and banking.
This is a six hour course. The course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period.
