Welcome to the Old Testament I CCH 160. This is a survey course. This course is designed to give you a 'bird's eye view' of the Old Testament. A time line of events for the Nation of Israel, the relationship between prophets, judges, kings and other nations, the relationship of God with His people and the people with God. Obviously, it would be impossible to go into depth with each of the Old Testament Books, however the study should be able to group the book of the Old Testament into The Law, The Prophets and The Wisdom and Poetry Writings, and introduce you to the background, content, literary quality and message of the Old Testament (as a whole and the individual writings). This course will involve tremendous amount of reading, both textbooks and the Old Testament.
The aim of a survey course is to acquaint you with the whole of the Old Testament, it's genre of writings and the development of Nation of Israel as people and faith.
This is a ten-semester hour credit course. This course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period.
Rev. Charles Davis is a graduate of Christian Bible College and Seminary, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Breyer State University , and has complete two unit (800 hours) of CPE training. He holds a BS in Theology, Associates in Divinity and MS Pastoral Care. He serviced in the US Navy for 14 years working in the area of Electronics and Electronic Warfare, this included three tours in Vietnam . Additional He served as a drug and alcohol counselor, a Master Training Specialist and Electronic Instructor. He has ten (10) years experience as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager in the electronic component manufacturing industry. Rev. Davis ' entered the ministry in 1978 as served as pastor, counselor, teacher, and chaplain. Rev. Davis has served on various denominational committees and boards at the local and State level.
During Rev. Davis ' twenty-five (25) years tenure as pastor/teaching/counselor/chaplain he has served hospitals and congregations in Florida , Illinois , California , Texas and Missouri . He is present serving a congregation in Kansas City , Missouri . As a pastor and counselor, Rev. Davis' counseling as ranged from crises intervention to long term; children to senior adults; families to groups and has involved counseling in the areas of (but not limited to) addiction, death and dying, abortion, marriage, divorce, and suicide.

Grades are based on completion of assignments and activities.
The grading scale for this course is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 69% = Fail
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
1). Identify the type and kinds genre found in the Old Testament
2). Describe Israel 's development from one individual to twelve tribes.
3). Distinguish between and use of literal, hyperbola, and figurative language used in the Old Testament Writings.
4). Identify Israel 's relationship to God and Israel 's down fall in relating to other nations.
5). Give a time line with major events from the Israel 's exodus from Egypt to destruction of the temple, and from the rebuilding of the temple to silent years prior to Jesus ' birth.
6). Identify the factors that influenced Jeremiah and Isaiah writings and message.
7). Identify the similarities and differences between Moses and Joshua leadership of Israel and their relationship to God.
8). Identify the similarities and differences between King David and King Solomon leadership of Israel and their relationship with God.
