Welcome to Foundations of Chemical Dependency Counseling, a Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Bachelor of Science if Chemical Dependency. I'm pleased to offer you this course. This is an exciting course. The course is divided into six basic sections. The first section deals with foundations and provides the basis for understanding what a drug is and how it works. It will also help you differentiate between use, abuse, and addiction. Why people use drugs is the topic of the second section. You will learn about the extent of drug use and the many different reasons that are commonly (and not so commonly) held to as to why people may choose to use or abuse drugs. Also, in this section, we will examine the effects that the escalation in drug use is having on our society. Being able to identify types of drugs is the topic of our third section, which will address restricted drugs such as narcotics, marijuana, and steroids. Legal drugs will be the topic of our fourth and fifth section. The sixth section will give you an understanding of the restricted drugs. The impact of these drugs on our society will be examined. The course concludes with an examination of possible solutions to the drug problem.
