Welcome to Pharmacology and Chemical Dependency, a Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Bachelor of Science if Chemical Dependency. I'm pleased to offer you this course. This is an exciting course. Pharmacology is designed to provide some guidelines for you to understand how certain chemicals have an affect in the human mind. The idea that consciousness has its physiological basis in the functioning of the brain rather than some other organ is actually a relatively new conclusion of modern science. And we look at the brain to understand the biological effects of these drugs, and this mean understanding something about the process whereby the billions of nerves in the brain exchange signals with each other.
This is an eight-semester hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your text book(s) have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded eight semester hours of credit. Students may accelerate, but may not complete this course in less than four weeks.
There is one (1) required textbook for this course.
Book 1: Chemistry of Mind-Altering Drugs: History, Pharmacology and Cultural Context, Current Edition. Perrine, Daniel M. Washington, DC: Oxford University Press, 1996: ISBN # 0-8412-3253-9.
You may purchase all of your books online from:
Grades are based on completion of assignments, activities.

15 Activities 45%
15 Assignments 45%
Self evaluation 5%
Discovery & Intention Statement 5%
TOTAL 100%
The aim of education about Pharmacology is to understand how chemical substances affect human consciousness. The overall effect of any drug can be dramatically different depending on a number of pharmacological variables such as the mode of ingestion and the drug's concentration.
