The College Certificate Program in Funeral Services Education
is designed to prepare graduates to obtain employment in funeral
homes as a "funeral associate
or funeral assistant." This program is NOT designed to prepare
one to become a licensed embalmer or licensed funeral director.
There are NO embalming laboratories provided in this curriculum.
Funeral Associates/Assistants are those who work closely and under
the direction of a licensed funeral director, in many
aspects and functions of the industry. As the "baby-boomer" generation
ages, the future need for professionals and para-professionals
in this industry is projected to increase significantly. Students
also complete courses in grief counseling and are prepared to deal
with basic interventions in acute grief.
This curriculum provides for a practicum in which students are
required to complete an internship with a
licensed funeral director in their geographical area. This is a
comprehensive, online distance education program and provides the
knowledge and skills, as well as internship experience needed to
gain an entry level position. Completion of the five-course curriculum
qualifies graduates to obtain certifcation in this specialty. The
curriculum is extensive and comprehensive and requires a real commitment
to study. A high school diploma is a prerequisite for admission
into this program.
Students completing the degree program are eligible for Certification
as a Certified Funeral Services Associate by the American Institute
of Funeral Service Associates. Access info here.
