Learning Disabilities – Assessing and Teaching
the Primary & Secondary Levels

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

COURSE OVERVIEW: Breyer State University offers a complete Certificate program in Learning Disabilities; a twelve semester course with three four hour courses and provides a comprehensive and detailed curriculum in this learning specialty. The program uses the latest and authoritative texts. The certificate program objective is to prepare teachers, tutors and educators to practice at a competent level of knowledge and skill in helping students with learning disabilities.
Upon successful completion of the certificate program, graduates receive a College Certificate in Learning Disabilities- Assessing and Teaching at the Primary and Secondary Levels, and twelve-semester hours of college credit. CEU certificates are also available for 180 contact hours.
You may enroll at anytime and begin your studies. The Certificate Program is designed to be a self-paced program with one to one faculty mentoring. You are permitted twelve months from the date of enrollment to complete the program. You study and meet the program objectives at your own pace, and are permitted to complete the program in less than the twelve-month allotted time frame.

Once officially enrolled, you are given a security password and directions to accessing the online classroom for the Certificate Program. The classroom contains information about me your course instructor, course assignments, ordering information for textbooks, course objectives, syllabus and information regarding exams. You correspond with me via email, and/or phone.

COURSE CONTENT: A small sample of course content follows:

1). Teaching academic skills at the elementary level for learning disabilities
2).  Creating responsive learning environments.
3).  Planning and Organizing Instruction.
4).  Teaching language. content and study skills.
6).  Promoting transitions.
7).  Special education and the adolescence.
8).   Instructional methods for the secondary level.
9).  Cognitive strategy training and study skills.
10).  Teaching methods for the secondary level.
11).  The assessment process.
12).  Assessment concepts and skills.
13).  Assessing general performance and academic achievement.

Total semester hours: 12

PREREQUISITE: Bachelors Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Services Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing, Home School Educators. Others by request only.

TUITION: The cost per course is $400.00

ENROLLMENT: There is open enrollment for this certificate program. Students may enroll and begin their studies at anytime.

OPTION: Some students may be interested in taking only one or two of the courses offered within a certificate program. This is acceptable. The price per course will be prorated based on the total tuition cost of the certificate program. Students who elect not to take all three of the courses within the program, however, will not be granted the college certificate. Students must complete all three courses in the certificate program to be awarded the college certificate.
