Procedure on how to challenge an online course by prior learning/ /work experience.

1). Enrolled students, and interested students in an online degree program at Breyer State University, may make a formal request for an evaluation of life/work experience credits for a course or courses offered in the degree program. Before submitting a request for evaluation, you must first complete an online application form. There is no charge and no obligation for submitting the application. If we do not have an application on file, we can not evaluate any request for credits evaluation. Access application form.

2). You must complete the official request for life/work credits form that is provided on our web site (link below for printable form).

3). You must carefully follow all directions as provided on the application form, and submit a complete portfolio including all required documents. The portfolio assessment requires the student to document experiences and learning relative to the core content of the course and its learning objectives.

4). There is a charge of $200.00 per course for the Bachelor level and $300.00 for Master/Doctorate application and submission of the completed Portfolio.

5). Upon receipt of your completed application and portfolio, it will be forwarded to the appropriate dean for review and evaluation.  You will receive an email of the Dean’s decision within 14-21 business days.

6). Enrolled students who receive approval of a submitted portfolio will receive full credit for the course required in the curriculum. You will receive a “P” for pass for the course on your transcripts.

7). Non-enrolled students may submit an application for request for portfolio assessment if they; 1) have an application on file, 2) remit the required evaluation fee along with their completed portfolio.  They will be notified of the Dean’s decision regarding their portfolio review, and if they proceed to enrollment, will be awarded the credits for a course or courses approved by the Dean. If the submitted portfolio does not meet standards for the award of course credits, then a refund will be issued to the applicant, minus a $100.00 administrative and evaluation processing fee.

8). There is a limit to the number of credits a student can receive for an online degree program through Life and Work experience:

Associate Degrees: up to 15 semester hours of credits

Masters Degrees: up to 15 semester hours of credits
