SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to the Dissertation portion of your course of study.  This course is a Post-Graduate Level course in the curriculum for the Doctoral Degree in Criminal Justice.  I am pleased to instruct and guide you in this specialty course, which will be applied towards your requirements in the doctoral program.

This course is designed for you to complete your program of study in criminal justice.  Each student should take the pre-requisite course, CJ 925 – Dissertation Proposal, prior to registering for this course.

This course serves as your remaining course for completion of your doctoral degree program in criminal justice.  In this course, you will work diligently on your manuscript.  The goal for each individual enrolled in this course is to make substantial progress on the development of the doctoral dissertation.  Course participants are expected to be at widely varied stages of progress.  However, each student should have completed the doctoral dissertation proposal.  Each student may be in the progress stage, content stage or methodologies.  You must complete a short proposal first before you begin formal work on your dissertation. I will review the proposal and communicate my findings and any needed revisions.

TIME FRAME:This is a ten (10) semester hour course.  This course is allotted 10 weeks of time.  You will have a minimum of six months time to complete the dissertation course and a maximum of one year to complete the course.  The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies.  Please be cognizant of the time frame.  The time frame may be extended up to two years upon my approval.  Please do not wait until the last minute to request the extension. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification.  Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded ten (10) semester hours of credit.
