Welcome to "Proactive Police Management", a Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. I am pleased to instruct you in this course.
This course introduces you to issues involved in criminal justice administration, including organizational theory, awareness of how CJ organizations function within the system, the impact of politics and government on CJ operations, the importance of competent leadership, and the endemic problems of fair and humane treatment in administering justice.
This is a ten (10) semester hour course. The course and all exams and/or assignments must be completed within ten weeks. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course or the day that you advise me that your textbook(s) have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please monitor the time frame as extensions are very rare without special circumstances. Upon successful completion of this course you will be awarded ten (10) semester hours of credit. You may accelerate and finish the course prior to the ten week mark, but not in less than four weeks. There is NO mandate to accelerate, it is simply an option if you are able to devote extra time to this course.
There is one (1) required books for this course. Please obtain this book as soon as possible.

There will be two examinations consisting of 25 multiple choice questions, which will briefly cover information presented in the text. Exams are not cumulative. These examinations will be conducted online and you may use the textbook and any notes you have taken.
The grading scale for the course is as follows:
A = 900-1000 points
B = 800-899 points
C = 700-799 points
D = 600-699 points
F = Below 599
You are encouraged to communicate with me via e-mail, group chat in BSU's virtual chat room, or even by telephone if necessary. Depending on how many students are enrolled in this course, we may have one or several group chats scheduled, of which you will be notified. You will study the nature of criminal justice organizations to include the structure of organizations. In addition, we will look at individuals and group behavior in criminal justice organizations and the various processes in these complex systems. The objective of this course is for you to:
- Understand complex organizations and how they apply to CJ organizations
- Know how organizational structure affects the outcomes of an organization
- Know the evolution of CJ organizations and management
- Identify and distinguish major elements related to theories of management and related issues
- Understand the management and personnel issues to fact CJ organizations
