Welcome to the
Challenges of Adolescence Grief course. I'm pleased to offer you
this course. This is an exciting course. In Erikson’s model
of psychosocial development, adolescence is marked by the milestone
of establishing an individual identity. A bridge is established
between the past – the years of childhood and dependency –
and the future – the years of adulthood and independence.
Adolescence is an important time of personality development, a period
of integration as well as separation. Although adolescents usually
demonstrate an understanding of the components that make up a mature
concept of death, this does not necessarily mean that there are
no differences in the ways adolescents and adults understand and
cope with death.
The aim of education about grief in adolescence is
the understanding of the central question addressed by adolescents:
“Who am I as an emotional, thinking, physical, and sexual
being”
This is a four-semester
credit course. This course is allotted eight months of time. You
