This is a comprehensive
course covering medical terminology. It is designed for those who
have had no past experiences with medical terminology or limited
experiences. The student will study all facets of medical terminology,
including phoenetics and definitions. Examinations will faciliate
further learning. Upon completion of this course, students will have
achieved a large vocabulary of medical terms and be able to recognize
related terms. Students will have developed a proficiency and be
prepared to work with the terminology in a health care related setting. The
text along with the course is designed to give you a basic construction
of medical words. In part one you will learn terminology, including
word parts, prefixes, suffixes and root words. Part two focuses
on body systems. You will study each particular system along with
a brief outline of anatomy and physiology and the pathophysiology.
This will include terms describing diseases and disorders and related
surgical, diagnostic, and treatment terms.
This is a 45 - hour continuing education course. It is designed
to be an independent study course with one-to-one faculty mentoring.
The text for this course is an excellent book. It contains case
studies, practice tests and exams along with the course material.
You will find it not only an excellent textbook but also a valuable
reference book.
Upon completion of this course, students will earn a Certificate
of Completion with the award of 45 contact hours. This course is
approved by the American Institute of Healthcare Professionals,
Inc. for the award of contact hours. Students also receive three
semester hours of college credit.

of this course, you will be able to:
1). Analyze numerous medical terms and have a solid foundation
on which to build a larger vocabulary.
2). Recognize medical terms and understand the context in which
that world will be applied.
3). Identify normal and abnormal functions of the human body and
understand what medical terms mean in specific contexts and which
terms are appropriated in professional practice.
It is recommended that you purchase a good medical dictionary.
The course is formatted as an online course. There is a midterm
and a final examination. The final is not a comprehensive exam.
There will be many reading assignments.
