Welcome to an exciting practical course in the curriculum for
the Degree, Associates in Office Information Technology. I will
be pleased to instruct you in this course. This is a practical
course in which you will explore, learn and master the Microsoft
Word 2002 software program, a module of the Microsoft Office suite
of applications.
Microsoft Word is one of the most commonly used
programs in the world that is used to share information across
the globe. Almost every business today utilizes the power of the
Microsoft Suite of applications and in today’s competitive
environment; almost everyone is expected to be proficient in the
Microsoft Word application.
You can expect to enjoy this course during which
you will gain ‘hands-on’ experience in mastering various
aspects of the Microsoft Word application. You will learn many
basic concepts and you will also master skills necessary to create
great looking documents, templates, ‘web-ready’ documents,
tables, charts, ‘graphic-filled’ documents, letters,
labels, envelopes and much, much more. The coursework that you
will complete in this course follows the MOUS standards.
This
is a five-semester hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks
of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course
successfully by the end of the ten-week period. The first day
of week one will begin the day that you register for the course,
or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived
and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of
the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted,
unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion
of this course, you will be awarded five semester hours of credit.
There
is only one required text book for this course:

There is only one exam for this course which must be taken at
the end of the tenth week of the course. This exam will account
for 60 percent of your overall grade.
The exam is programmed and located in the online
classroom for this course. The examination is an open-book examination.
The exam consists of thirty questions and you will have thirty minutes
to complete the questions. To access the exam, you must send me
an email and request to have access to the exam. I will then grant
your information to access the examination questions for the specified
time period. You will receive an email from me indicating the
necessary information required to access the examination. Once
you navigate to the classroom, click on testing, and click on
the exam you are taking. You will need your User ID and PASS WORD
to access the exam. The exam will appear on your screen. Once
you access the exam, you have 30 minutes to submit your answers.
The program provides me with the exact date and time that you
accessed the exam. The program also notifies me of the exact date
and time that you submitted your answers. When you are ready you
can click on the submit button to send your answers to me. You
will receive an email with your exam score and you will receive
a copy of the examination with the correct answers within 72 hours;
hence you will be able to know where you went wrong.
The grading
scale for this course is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail
You are encouraged to communicate with me. I am available as a
teacher, coach, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals
for this course. Primarily, communication is through email. However,
I am also available for conversation by telephone if you would
like. Our classroom for this course has a “chat” room.
I am also willing to meet with you one-on-one in the chat room
at a mutually convenient time. From time to time, depending on
how many students are enrolled in this course at a particular
time, we will have some scheduled group chats. You will receive
information regarding dates and times for chat sessions. Upon
registration for this course you will be given my contact information
which includes a telephone contact number, ICQ# information and
MSN messenger information. I am also available for communication
over MSN chat; hence you may be able to save on some of those
high phone bills costs. If at any time during this course you
change your email address or other contact information, please
be sure to notify me immediately.
There is one major written assignment for this course. The assignment
is due at the beginning of the tenth week. You will also have
four short fortnightly assignments due at the end of week 2, week
4, week 6 and week 8 respectively. The assignments total 40 percent
of your final grade. The major assignment carries a weight of
20 percent toward your final grade and each fortnightly assignment
carries a weight of 5 percent toward your final grade.
I, Warren Seetahal, MBA, BSc, MCSE currently teach undergraduate
courses at Breyer State University. I hold a degree in Masters
in Business Administration, one in Bachelor of Science in Computer
Science with a major in Accounting, and I am a Microsoft Certified
Systems Engineer. I have worked in many companies primarily being
responsible for change through technology. I have served as project
manager, ISO 9002 auditor and Information Systems Manager for
many companies. I have been a swimmer and table-tennis player
for the past sixteen years. I am currently pursuing RHCE certification
and intend to pursue a PhD in Operations Research and Information
Systems in the near future.

12). Understanding and utilizing footnotes and bookmarks.
13). Auto-creating tables of contents and indexes.
