SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to College Keyboarding and Document Processing, a Associates Level course in the curriculum for the Associates Degree in Business Administration. I am pleased to instruct you in this course, which will be a core course for the remainder of your studies in the associates program.

This is a fundamental course. The primary focus of this course is to develop keyboarding proficiency through creating, processing, editing, composing, and proofreading various documents within Microsoft(r) Word 2000. Communication is the main focus of management and proper keyboarding skills and Document Processing are essential for this.

I know you will enjoy this course. As you progress through the course you will see it does lay down a solid foundation for the rest of the curriculum. It is my pleasure to have you in the course.

TIME FRAME: This is a five-semester hour course. This course is allotted 10 weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the 10-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded five semester hours of credit.

TEXTBOOKS: There is required textbook kit for this course.

EXAMINATIONS/Evaluation: Your work will be based on the following:  

Midterm - This will cover test 1 on your CD

Final -
This will cover test 2 on your CD

Final Project -
I will pick 10 random lessons and you will turn them in at the end of the course.  

Final Grades Will Be Assigned As Follows:  

A=90-100% of possible points
B=80-89% of possible points
C=70-79% of possible points
D=60-69% of possible points
F=Less than 60% of possible points  

The course covers 12 Units, which include the 60 lessons: On your CD as you go through it you will find easy to follow instructions where you take your Time Production Work, Timed Writings, and Daily Work. These can be easily uploaded (sent to my email address) and your work will then be graded. I expect most of you will finish the first two weeks in one week - this is totally acceptable. This will give you time to concentrate on weeks 3 - 10. If you anticipate finishing early, please let me know your intent and schedule by emailing me. 

COMMUNICATION: You are encouraged to communicate with me. I am available as a teacher, coach, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. Primarily, communication is through email. However, I am also available for conversation by telephone if you would like. Our classroom for this course has a "chat" room. I am also very willing to meet with you one-on-one in the chat room at your request. From time to time, depending on how many students are enrolled in this course at a particular time, we will have some scheduled group chats. You will receive more detailed information at the time such chat sessions are scheduled. Please keep my email address handy so that you can contact me whenever necessary. If at any time during this course you change your email address, please be sure to notify me right away.

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS: There are no written assignments for this course. There is a considerable amount keyboarding. Practice with the text and do the assignments on the CD and you will stay current. This course you increase your skills, but make sure you practice before doing the timed skills

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1). Refine keyboarding skill.
2). Develop an understanding of word processing in the world of work.
3). Appreciate computers and the hardware components of word processing.
4). Learn selected rules of written English.
5). Acquire mastery of basic applications found in Microsoft(r) Word 2000.
