Abstract of Syllabus

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to DCH 506, a doctorate level course in the curriculum of the Doctorate in Clinical Hypnotherapy Degree program. I am pleased to offer you this course which is a clinical study of the use of hypnosis for trance formation with children and adolescence.

This course focuses on the study and use of hypnosis in a clinical setting with children and adolescence. We start out with the textbook, Your Child. Leaning to understand the stresses, fears, and issues of childhood can help the clinical hypnotherapist learn to prepare quality scripts and sessions for the client aged 3 to 12 years of age. The first text is titled: Your Child.

"Your Child, takes you step-by-step through the developmental milestones of childhood, discussing specific questions and concerns and examining more troublesome problems. From choosing your baby's doctor to dealing with steep problems, from helping a child develop self-esteem to discerning when certain behaviors call for professional help - and how to find it - this book offers comprehensive and accessible information for parents on the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development of children from infancy through the pre-adolescent years. Expertly and definitively offering practical advice and invaluable information, Your Child will guide you through every stage of your child's growth and help you meet the daily challenges of parenting."

This course will cover the techniques of hypnotherapy applied to a wide range of issues related to the teen years. Often turbulent times can be helped through the process of hypnosis. Sometimes the parents request hypnosis for their teen, and sometimes the teens themselves will request help. It is important to understand the challenges that face teens in today's world. Clinical hypnosis can be a great benefit to teens seeking solutions to school related problems, issues with parents, issues related to peer pressure, self-esteem, and many other challenges. The second text is called Your Adolescent.

"Parents, teachers, and mental health workers will find the answers to these- and many other-questions in this forthright yet compassionate guide to helping your adolescent through the tumultuous teen years. From peer pressure and self-esteem to experimentation with sex, alcohol, and drugs, this invaluable resource covers a wide range of practical issues. Here as well is information on more serious obstacles to a teen's development that may require professional intervention, such as depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, and disruptive behavioral disorders. As surely as every child will become a teen, every person that must relate to a teen will find this book a reliable, indispensable guide to the ups and downs of adolescence."
