COMPETENCY BASED COLLEGE CREDIT EXAMINATIONS/COURSES

 

GENERAL EDUCATION OR ELECTIVES REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELORS DEGREES

All students in the Degree Completion program at the Bachelors level are required to complete courses in general education and/or electives for a total of 30 credit hours.

Students may complete this 30 credit hour requirement in the following ways:

  1. Approved transfer credits of general education and/or elective courses taken at other schools. We will accept past awarded courses as long as a grade of "C" or above was obtained. Past course credits given for life experiences will not be accepted.
  1. Taking the online, general education and elective courses offer to degree completion students by Breyer State University. Courses are available in a wide array of subjects and new courses are being added all the time. Courses are independent study format with faculty guidance and mentoring. Full course information and syllabi are provided to enrolled students. Tuition for the general education courses are inclusive of the degree program tuition.
  1. Completing college level course challenge and competency exams offer by approved providers; see information below.
  1. Students may elect a combination of the above options to full this general education and or course electives degree requirement.

Breyer State University-Alabama accepts credits for its general education and/or course electives hours for college-level competency examinations from the providers below. Taking these competency examinations is just one way that students may earn credits toward their degree requirements.

College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP)®

CLEP examinations are offered in a variety of general education courses. Cost per examination is published on their website. Study guides and outlines for the examinations are offered through the provider. Each examination is assigned a specific number of semester hours of credits.

DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)

DSST examinations are offered in six major areas. The examinations are in college subjects that are comparable to the final examinations in undergraduate courses. Each successfully completed examination is assigned 3 semester hours of credits. Cost per examination is published on their website.

TECEP® Tests

Examinations are offered in wide variety of subject areas. This program is offered by Thomas Edison State College. All examinations are college level, undergraduate course examinations. Credit hours and costs per course are detailed on their website.
