Doctorate in Counseling Psychology

Our online distance education program offers students the opportunity to study a comprehensive curriculum in the Counseling Psychology doctoral degree program. The field of psychology and counseling continues to require highly educated practitioners in the discipline. Needed today are psychology and behavioral specialists, consultants, researchers, and program developers.

Through this program students will learn the skills needed to succeed in this field. All of the courses are focused on the major. This allows students to maximize their learning in the core courses and succeed in their educational and career goals.

Students begin with the study of ethics and culture in counseling, life coaching, personal assessment. Specific courses focus on psychopathology, neuropathology and crisis counseling. In the higher division courses students enter research methods and statistic courses, and complete a dissertation at the end of their program. These specialty courses allow students maximum opportunities to experience the real world.   Several career fields this degree will prepare you for are:

The prerequisites for this program are: an earned master degree in psychology, counseling psychology, or a closely related field. NOTE: This degree does not meet any state or country’s specific requirements for licensing. This degree program is intended for those who have an earned graduate degree in psychology and/or counseling and are currently and appropriately licensed to practice in their state or country.

The online curriculum offers an innovative approach to higher education. Enrollment is open and students may begin the program at any time. All courses are provided in online classrooms, with on-to-one faculty mentoring. Students also have free access to our comprehensive Study Tactics and Resources Center, with links to subject related websites, online libraries, articles and research assistance. Our online Counseling Psychology degree curriculum includes:

2. PSY 825 Career Development and Counseling 6 hrs
3. PSY 840 Life Coaching 6 hrs
4. PSY 860 Personality Assessment 6 hrs
5. PSY 890 Advanced Psychopathology 6 hrs
6. PSY 900 Crisis Counseling 6 hrs
7. PSY 920 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 6 hrs
8. PSY 940 Neuropsychology 6 hrs
9. PSY 960 Statistics 6 hrs
10. PSY 975 Research Methods 6 hrs
11. PSY 990 Dissertation 12 hrs

Courses in this curriculum are to be taken in sequence as above.

TUITION: $550.00 per course ($650.00 per dissertation course). Students may register and pay for one course at a time.

** There is also a one time $50.00 admission processing fee.

Course Completion Times: Students are permitted 10 weeks to complete an online course. This may be extended with the permission of the instructor. For all Symposium Courses, students are permitted up to a six month period for completion. Doctoral students are permitted one year for all Dissertation/Doctoral Project courses.

TRANSFER CREDITS & EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CREDITS: Up to fifty percent of the degree may be earned by transfer credits from other schools and/or application for the award of experiential learning credits.
