This is a five-hour Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for
the Bachelor Degree in E-Business & Commerce. The course aims
to provide you with an overview of the interactive multimedia
technology through working with various multimedia tools. You
will have an opportunity to learn various tools concentrating
on different aspects of the technology: text, graphics, audio,
animation, and video, and you will also be able to develop an
understanding of interactive multimedia related design principles
and are to apply them in developing interactive multimedia-based
application. Upon completion of this course, you should be able
to have knowledege of different concepts of interactive multimedia
technology and instructional design theories and principles related
to multimedia. You should also be able to use a variety of multimedia
tools and design interactive multimedia-based programs.
This
is a five-semester hour course. It is allotted ten weeks of time.
You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully
by the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will
begin the day that you register for the course. Upon successful
completion of this course, you will earn five semester hours of
credit.

Your performance will be evaluated on the following course requirements:
1). Chapter Summaries from the textbook: (400
points total- 80 points each) Summarize 5 (five) chapters of
your choice in the textbook. Each summary should not be longer
than 2 (two) pages.
2). 2 (two) individual assignments. (200 points-
100 points each) See the assignments section of this course for
the details.
3). Research Project: (400 points) You are required
to complete a small project on one interactive multimedia technology.
Select a topic and write a 5-page research paper. It should be
double spaced and approporiate references should be cited. Topic
is subject to my approval.
The grading scale for this course is as follows:
900-1000 = A
800-899 = B
700-799 = C
Below 700 = F
1). Introduction of Multimedia and Hypermedia: HTML;
JavaScript;Java; CGI.
2). Issues in Multimedia Application Design: Hardware Components
and Platforms; Authoring Tools and Interface Systems; Operating
Systems Support.
3). Multimedia Compression Techniques and Standards: Text Compression,
Huffman, Arithmetic, and LZW; Speech and Audio Coding; Still Image
Compression, DPCM, Transform.
4). Coding, VQ, JPEG; Video Compression, MPEG-1/2, H.261/263.
5). Case Studies of Multimedia Applications.
I prefer communication through e-mail. However, I am also available
for conversation by phone if you would like. I have two e-mail
addresses and you can use. Upon registration, you will receive
both of my e-mail addresses. When e-mailing, always include your
name and the course name in your e-mail message to me, as I may
not recognize your e-mail name.

Late Work: In
fairness to everyone in the class, late work is not acceptable.
All assignments must be completed during the assigned times. If
a conflict exists and there is an acceptable justification for
it, you are responsible to contact me about making up the work.
Late assignments/works automatically lose one (1) letter grade.
Make ups need to be completed within one week of the missed deadline.
Extra Credit:
If it is your desire to do more than I require for the course,
I will accept assignments for extra credit. You must request an
extra credit assignment by email. Each extra assignment will be
worth 40 points. Select up to 2 recommended readings and summarize
them. You may obtain a maximum of 80 extra credit points. All
extra credit assignments are due by weekend 10.
