SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to your Dissertation in Education, a Doctorate Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Doctorate in Education. I am pleased to offer you this course. This is your last course in the program. In order to complete your dissertation you must first complete a proposal, once approved you can start working on your dissertation as per the guidelines stated below.

TIME FRAME: This is a ten-semester hour course. This course is allotted twenty weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the twenty-week period. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded ten semester hours of credit. You may accelerate, but may not complete this course in less than four weeks.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PH.D PROPOSALS

Follow these guidelines when developing your proposal:

1). All proposals must be type-written. A hand written proposal is not acceptable.
2). Please provide a cover page which includes the following:
• Your name.
• Address.
• Phone Number.
• Student ID number.
• Email address.
• The degree you are pursuing.
• The date of submission.
• Title the page with " Ph.D. Proposal"
3). Please use 1 inch margins when completing your proposal.
4). Please be sure to number all pages, (header or footer).
5). Please indicate the type of research methodology you will be utilizing.
6). Be sure to make a copy of the proposal for yourself. Proposals that are submitted to the University will not be returned to you.
7). Following submission of your proposal, you will receive a completed evaluation of the proposal from myself within 2-3 weeks. All proposal evaluations will be emailed to you.

2). Title the page with " Ph.D. Dissertation"
3). The degree you are pursuing.

5). 1-inch margins.
6). Double-spaced.
7). Number all pages.
8). A minimum of 75 pages.
9). APA style format.
10). Be sure to make a copy of the dissertation for yourself. Dissertations that are submitted to the University will not be returned to you.
11). Following submission of your dissertation, you will receive a completed evaluation of the dissertation. All dissertation evaluations will be emailed to you.

The following is a recommended guideline for completing the dissertation. You may alter this guideline slightly if needed.

2). Abstract.
3). Table of Contents.

Chapter 1: Introduction

1). Nature of the Problem.
2). Background and Significance of the Problem.
3). Research Questions.

Chapter 2: Review of Literature

Chapter 3: Methodology

1). Implementation Plan.
2). Evaluation Plan.
3). Expected Outcomes.

Chapter 4: Results

1). Conclusions.
2). Implications.

Chapter 5: Summary

1). Bibliography.
2). Appendices.

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
Below 79% = Fail

GRADING COMPOSITION:

Proposal      - 10%
Dissertation - 90%

TOTAL 100%

COMMUNICATION: You are encouraged to communicate with me.  I am available as a teacher, coach, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals for this course.  Primarily, communication is through email.  However, I am also available for conversation by telephone if you would like.  Please keep my email address handy so that you can contact me whenever necessary.  Upon registration, you will receive my email address.  If at any time during this dissertation process you change your email address, please be sure to notify me right away.
