Welcome to the
Independent study Symposium in Health Care Administration, a course
that is designed to increase your knowledge base in Health Care
Administration issues and current events.
In fulfillment of the assignments that will provide focused study
of Health Care issues you identify as important to your development
as a manager. This course is designed to incorporate your own experiences
and observations regarding your basic health care knowledge and
how you apply the concepts you've studied into the practical world
of Health Care Management. Self-direction and initiative must be
displayed in completing your assignments.
This course is designed
to access your health care knowledge base which you have accumulated
from the prerequisite courses and your working experiences. You
are to select twenty articles from current publications like: Modern
Healthcare, Hospitals and Health Networks, Health Care Executive
and others.
This is a twenty-semester
hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must
complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by
the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will begin
the day that you register for the course.
It is up to you to comply with the time frames for assignments
and completion of this course. Extensions are granted only for extenuating
circumstances, and must be agreed upon by both you and I. Upon successful
completion of this course, you will be awarded twenty-semester hours
of credit.
There is NO required
textbook for this course.
There are NO examinations
for this course.
The grading scale for
this course is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail
Mark Barabas
has held senior administrative positions in hospitals for the past
twenty-five years including CEO and COO. He has been a limited service
faculty member for two different universities. For more information
on Mr. Barabas's background please consult the faculty listing.
You must successfully
complete HCA: 140,180, 200, 240, 260, 300, 330, 360, 380. This is
a self-paced, independent study course, with one-on-one faculty
mentoring. There is NO required text for this course.
Upon completion
of this course, you will be able to:
1). Quickly determine the pertinent information contained in current
Healthcare articles related to your role as a future Healthcare
administrator.
2). Relate current Healthcare issues to your local market dynamics.
3). Identify national Healthcare trends in your local market.
4). Increase your "core" Healthcare knowledge acquired
in prerequisite courses.
5). Focus on a topic area of interest or of weakness by using your
"student choice" article selections to reach a goal you
set. (Goal: become proficient with Strategic Planning issues. Plan
to reach goal: two (2) mandatory and five (5) student choice articles
completed on strategic planning issues).
