SYLLABUS

TIME FRAME: This is a five-semester hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your textbook has arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded five-semester hours of credit.

TEXTBOOK: There is one required textbook for this class.

Book 1: Organizational Behavior, Human Behavior at work. By John W. Newstrom, Keith Davis McGraw-Hill Irwin 11th edition. ISBN#: 72875461.

This course will focus on the basic concepts of Human Behavior in Organizations and the related theories of management.

This is a self-paced, independent study course, with one-on-one faculty mentoring.

PROCEED: Once your textbook arrives, please begin reading the text. Your assignment for this course is to read, study and review this textbook. You may proceed as rapidly or as paced as you desire. Your FINAL examination will cover all of the material in this textbook.

As you read the texts, you may certainly want to underline or highlight important concepts, theories, modalities, etc. You may take your own notes, although note taking is not a requirement for this course. There is one written exam (objective type, Open Book), which is to be taken after you have completed all of the readings and the written assignments.

EXAMINATION: There is one final examination that is taken after you have completed all of the readings and written assignments. The examination is an objective type, multiple choice and True/False questions. It is an OPEN book exam. The examination is programmed and located in the classroom for this course. You will have five (5) days to complete your exam, once you access it from the classroom.

TO ACCESS THE EXAM:

1). You must send me an email and request to have access to the exam. I will then program your access in.
2). You will receive an email back from me telling you that you are now authorized to go ahead and to access your exam.
3). To access, you will come into the classroom, click on testing, and click on the exam you are taking.
4). You will need your USER ID and PASSWORD to access the exam. The exam will appear on your screen.
5). Once you accessed the exam, you have five (5) days to submit your answers. The program notifies me of the exact date and time you submit your answers. Thus, the program is timing you.
6). When you are ready, go back into the classroom and click in your responses, then click to submit.
7). In a short time following your submission, you will receive the exam in your email box with your computed score. You will also know what questions, if any, you missed, and what the correct answer is. I, too, receive a copy of your final exam and your score.

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
Below 70% = Fail

ASSIGNMENTS: You are to create a Learning Portfolio as you proceed and progress in this course. A Learning Portfolio is a comprehensive composite of responses to study questions that you will answer using your textbook.

For each chapter in the textbook, you are presented study questions to answer. All answers must be in writing (typed). Specific information for formatting, as well as the study questions, are provided in the "Assignment" section.

You are NOT to turn in any answers to the study questions until you have completed all of them for this course. Responses to the study questions will be turned in all at once, together. Instructions for formatting are provided in the "Assignment" section.

Your work with the study questions will help insure continued learning and application of the materials as you progress through this course. Review carefully, the instructions for formatting and completing your study questions, as provided in the "Assignment" section.

This comprehensive assignment will be graded on a PASS/FAIL basis. In order to receive a Pass score, you must have completed the responses to the questions at 80% correct completion.
