Information Sheet on our Associate of Science in Medical Coding Degree Program.

Thank you for your interest in our online Associate of Science in Medical Coding degree program. Very few (distance program) opportunities exist today for students to acquire their education in this specialty through online courses. Breyer State University is proud to offer a new "Innovative" online distance education degree program leading to the Associate of Science in Medical Office Assisting Degree. Our degree program consists of twelve core courses, which are listed below:

1. BIO 161 Human Anatomy and Physiology 5 hrs
2. MC 155 HCPCS Concepts 5 hrs
3. HCA 141 Organizational Behavior 5 hrs
4. MA 241 Medical Terminology 6 hrs
5. IT 177 Computer Fundamentals 5 hrs
6. CPT 170 Introduction to Medical Coding 5 hrs
7. CPT 220 CPT Coding 6 hrs
8. ICD 260 ICD-9-CM Coding I 5 hrs
9. ICD 340 ICD-9-CM Coding II 5 hrs
10. MC 295 Laboratory and Pathology 5 hrs
Students may choose one or both of the tracks below to complete their program

Medical Coder - CPC Track (Courses needed to take the Certified Professional Coder test with AAPC)

1. AST 275 Anesthesia Coding 5 hrs
2. RAD 285 Radiology Coding 5 hrs
3. MED 297 Medicine Coding 5 hrs

Medical Coder - CPC-H Track (Courses needed to take the Certified Professional Coder test with AAPC)

1. MA 254 Medical Billing 5 hrs
2. MA 273 Medical Insurance Billing 5 hrs
3. MA 277 Medical Law and Ethics 5 hrs

TOTAL: 67 semester hours

Courses in this curriculum are to be taken in sequence as above.

Upon successful completion of all eleven courses, you will be conferred the degree "Associate of Science in Medical Coding" and may use the initials, "AS" after your name.

The Associate Degree prepares you for a successful career in a health care office setting. Upon graduation, this program is designed for you to immediately enter into a medical coding position. As a medical coder there are many types opportunities with health care organizations, medical office practices, and HMO health care insurance companies.

All courses are targeted and precise, clear and easy to follow, yet challenging and exciting at the same time. Each course begins with a syllabus from your instructor, followed by course assignments. You will be given five years to complete the AS program. Apostille Notarization of Degrees

Graduates, who reside outside of the USA, may require their degrees to have an Apostille Certification.  Breyer State University works with an agency in Washington DC that we refer graduates to for application for their Apostille of their degree. View Additional Information

FAQS:

1). There are no residency or travel requirements for this degree program.
2). Courses may be registered for and paid for, all at once or one course at a time.
3). You may take more than one course at one time. The Practicum/Internship course can only be taken after successful completion of all other courses in the curriculum.
4). Breyer State University is accredited by the Association for Innovation in Distance Education. To learn more about our accreditation please view www.breyerstate.com/accreditation.htm
5). Tuition does not include the course of required textbooks.
6). To apply for the AS Degree Program, you must complete an online enrollment application. This can be done at www.breyerstate.com/apply.htm
7). There is a one-time $50.00 admissions fee. This can be paid by credit card online at our secure server www.breyerstate.com/pay.htm We also accept personal checks and money orders payable to Breyer State University. These may be mailed to 2100 SouthBridge Parkway, Suite 650, Birmingham, Alabama 35209.
8). There are no requirements for admission to this degree program other than a high school diploma or its equivalent.
9). There are no grants or tuition assistant for this program. However, many employers are paying for or reimbursing tuition for studies at Breyer State University. Please check with your own employer's policy on this.
10). Breyer State University will accept transfer credits of completed courses from other universities.
11). Upon graduation, your diploma and official transcripts will have Associate of Science in Medical Coding printed on the diploma.
12) Breyer State University also offers an innovative program where you can apply for life/career experience credits toward your Associate degree. Up to 50% of your degree requirements can be earned through life/career experiences and/or transfer credits from other schools. See full information on this at our website.
13). Our diplomas are beautifully done by a professional printer. They are a light cream color card stock with blue and black foil ink for lasting quality. The Breyer State University logo is imprinted and our diplomas carry the gold embossed seal of the university. They are contained in a beautiful navy blue leather-like diploma holder with the university logo embossed in gold on the outside cover.
