13). This degree program does not meet any type of licensing
requirements for a professional counseling license. Many states
will allow one to work under the direction of a licensed counselor
and/or other mental health licensed professional. Generally, pastoral
care counseling is not regulated by state licensure, as it is
a more religious/spiritual type of counseling, and states allow
for a separation of "church and state." Students/graduates may
consider applying for a church ordination, such as the non-denominational
"Universal" church, which provides for a legal status ordination
that is recognized in all states of the USA.
If you have any
questions or concerns as to whether your state or country allows
practice in counseling without an official license, then please
be sure to check with your state's licensing agency/board before
enrolling into this degree program. Please note that this degree
program is not approved by the American Psychological Association
(APA). Again, there are agencies/employers that do hire holders
of degrees in counseling, where the state laws allow practice under
supervision, or do not require licensure. It is important to first
check with your own state or country's licensing laws/requirements.
