Once you are in receipt of your texts, please review and begin reading the Criminal Law text. Your assignment for the first five weeks is to read, study and review the text. Additionally assignments will be made and you may submit them for my review and I will advise as to how well you are learning the material presented in the text. Please note that you may proceed as quickly as you like keeping in mind that there will be two examinations in this course, one a midterm and the other a final examination.

After you have read the first Seventeen (17) chapters of the first text, please email me so that access may gained for the midterm. Please remember to notify me at least one week prior to the exam so that appropriate contacts can be made with the University to grant you access to the exam. Another important reminder is that the midterm examination must be taken and completed by the end of the 5th week, no exceptions.

After you have read the last Seven (7) chapters of the second text (Criminal Procedure), once again email me so that access may be gained to this final examination. Please note that the final examination will only test on the last seven (7) chapters of the second text and will not be cumulative in scope. Again, the final examination must be completed by the last day of the course (end of the 10th week), no exceptions.

EXAMINATIONS: There are two examinations required for this course, one a midterm examination and the other a final examination. The midterm examination covers Chapters One through Seventeen of the text and the Final examination covers Chapters One through Seven of the text and is not cumulative. Additionally I will provide written assignments, which you have the option to complete and submit to me for review. This is simply done to allow you practice for both the Midterm examination and the Final Examination. These assignments will not be graded and have no influence on your final grade for the course.

Procedure for both Exams and Exam format;

Both exams will be essay and you are to utilize the materials presented in the course text as reference material. Although you may utilize any materials including commercial outlines it is best to establish a learning routine which utilizes the class text materials rather than on commercial outlines. You are reminded that the work presented must be logically thought out, concise and specific address the question being asked. Any answers which are deemed non-responsive will not be given credit in this class. If you have any specific questions concerning the exams they should be addressed with me well in advance of any issues arising and must be done prior to sitting for either the Midterm or the Final Exam.

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    - A
80-89%      - B
70-79%      - C
60-70%      - D
Below 60% - Fail

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS: As referenced previously, I will make available written assignments should you choose to avail him or herself of this opportunity to learn material from the text. The written assignments must be requested by you and upon request will be emailed to you. The assignments are structured the same way as the questions in the exam and will provide you the ability to have your work reviewed by me prior to sitting for the exams. Most student find this to be an excellent review tool for the exam and give them so idea as to the format of the questions to be asked on both exams. However, you should note that the assignments will not be graded nor counted in any fashion toward the final grade in the course. They are simply learning tools, which you may or may not want to do; the option is solely left up to you to decide.

COURSE ACCELERATION: It is permissible for you to accelerate the pace in this self-directed course. You may chose to take the mid-term examination prior to the 5th week and/or take the final examination prior to the 10th week in the course. Please notify me as to your intentions in this regard and you will be granted access to the exams during that period of time in which you wish to sit for them. However due to the difficulty of the material and the complexity of the concepts presented in this course, most students will not elect this option and most proceed with the pace outlined in the syllabus.

INFORMATION: If you have any questions regarding this program, you may address them to adm@breyerstate.com. An administrative faculty member will respond to all questions.
