Welcome to JR310 Copywriting, Feature Writing and Freelance Journalism a Bachelor of Science level course in the curriculum for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism. We will be covering a lot of material during this ten week course. You will be given a lot of information. and you will also notice some reviewing however from different perspectives. The authors of the chosen text for this course are highly respected professionals in their fields. They have > cut the clutter = to present result oriented information. There are a lot of mistakes to be made in any profession including Journalism. Don't waste time reinventing the wheel. Learn from their mistakes and successes. Emphasis has been made on professionalism as you accomplish each course. In Journalism 310, I can't emphasize it strongly enough. Treat each assignment with the respect and professionalism. Your studies at Breyer State University are quality and they are important. There is always something going on somewhere that needs learning, research, writing, re-writing, reporting and needs reporting well. Work hard, write well and enjoy this course. The pre-requisite of Journalism 310 is your successful completion of JR110, JR150, JR180, JR200, JR220, JR250, and JR260.
This is a ten-week course and all requirements for the course must be completed by the end of the ten weeks. Your first day of class will be when you notify me via email that your books for this course have arrived. Please stay very aware of the schedule and vigilantly monitor yourself as any possibility of time extended beyond the ten weeks will be a rare exception. The Journalism Degree is 110 credit hours. With your successful completion of Copywriting, Feature Writing and Freelance Writing you will be awarded six credit hours.

Keep in mind that when you have completed the twelve courses, these books will be an addition to your personal library of reference material and retain ongoing value to you.
There are two examinations for Journalism 310 which will include a mid-term and a final examination. You are on special assignment for these two examinations. Do your best. Have fun with it. Be professional.
The grading scale is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail

You will be learning the rules and reasons as to why and how copywriters use language to capture your interest, generate sales and create a long-lasting theme. You will be learning the importance of knowing and applying the principles of effective copywriting with tips for specific tasks such as newspaper ads, direct-mail packages, brochures, catalogs, press releases, audiovisual presentations, business letters, agency ads, technical writing and freelance writers. You will cultivate vital journalistic skills, work on creating and refining articles ideas, research, and navigate legal and ethical questions. Be ready to take the plunge into the world of freelance writing, even if you only choose to stay there long enough to learn the ropes! Hard work and management skills will be honed, non-traditional ways of generating an income, business issues and resources available for freelance writers will be addressed.
