COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to JR340 a Bachelor of Science level course in the curriculum for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism. It is my intention that all submissions for the course be turned in as if for professional publication. You will be reading, writing, rewriting and writing again. We have advanced to the next level of pre-professional journalism and I want you to be ready to rise to the occasion! It's an exciting course, just one away from taking on the fun part which will be your Journalism Symposium and your Journalism Practicum! I know you will enjoy both of those immensely! You have worked hard and you have come so far. I'm proud of you and I am so incredibly excited for you! We are going to be polishing what you already have learned and putting it to work for you. Hang on! The pace is fast and we're going to have a great time!

The Midterm and Final Examination will be ongoing projects throughout this ten week course. You will be able to read them when you access your assignments so you can work on them during the entire ten week period. Take the assignments seriously and treat them in a professional manner. Professionalism and respect of the trade are major keys to success in Journalism. I hope that you are seeing the significance of the chosen text and how it intertwines. At the same time, I trust you are spending more of your time reading newspapers, quality magazines, listening to the news on the radio and watching documentaries and the news on television. Do those things with a critical eye, always asking and answering: "How would I have handled that same situation"? Could you have handled a particular piece more productively? Your studies at Breyer State University are quality and they are important. Remember what I have said: "Once a specific course is finished, it really is not finished! Don't turn your back on it! You might miss something!" And don't ever close your eyes to today and tomorrow. There is always something going on somewhere that needs learning, writing, reporting and needs reporting well. Work hard, write well and enjoy this course. Be excited about it! Be the best you can be!

PRE-REQUISITE: The pre-requisite of Journalism 340 is your successful completion of JR110, JR150, JR180, JR200, JR220, JR250, JR260 and JR310.

(Note the editions)Your continued assignment in reading is that of newspapers, quality books, news magazines, watching documentaries and listening with a 'journalist's ear'. Read about as many subjects as you can, especially those that you know little about. How would you have handled situations differently? What did you like or how could you have made it better?
