Our online distance education program offers students the opportunity to study a comprehensive curriculum in the Counseling Psychology degree program. Graduates of this field use various techniques to advice people on how to deal with problems of everyday life. They work in counseling centers, hospitals, large organizations, and private group/individual offices.

Through this program students will learn the skills needed to succeed in this field. All of the courses are focused on the major. This allows students to maximize their learning in the core courses and succeed in their educational and career goals.

Students begin with the study of theories of personalities, psychopathology, counseling techniques and theories and tests and measurements. Specific courses focus on ethics, group counseling, brief therapy, marriage and family counseling and brief therapy with children. In the higher division courses students enter a symposium course where they are able to focus more in one specialty area of Counseling Psychology, and as well as complete a comprehensive project dealing with a specialty area of their choice. These specialty courses allow students maximum opportunities to experience the real world.   Some career fields this degree will prepare you for are:

The prerequisites for this program are: an earned bachelor degree in psychology, counseling psychology, behavior psychology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, addictions counseling psychology, or a related field.

Please note: This degree does not prepare one for a license in counseling.

The online curriculum offers an innovative approach to higher education. Enrollment is open and students may begin the program at any time. All courses are provided in online classrooms, with on-to-one faculty mentoring. Students also have free access to our comprehensive Study Tactics and Resources Center, with links to subject related websites, online libraries, articles and research assistance. Our online Counseling Psychology degree curriculum includes:

2. PSY 515 Psychopathology 6 hrs
3. PSY 530 Counseling Techniques and Theories 6 hrs
4. PSY 560 Tests and Measurements 6 hrs
5. PSY 580 Ethics in Counseling 6 hrs
6. PSY 600 Group Counseling 6 hrs
7. PSY 625 Brief Therapy 6 hrs
8. PSY 640 Marriage and Family Counseling 6 hrs
9. PSY 675 Brief Therapy with Children and Adolescents 6 hrs
10. PSY 690 Substance Abuse Counseling 6 hrs
11. PSY 700 Independent Study Course 10 hrs

TOTAL: 70 Semester Hours

Courses in this curriculum are to be taken in sequence as above.

TUITION: $500.00 per course. Students may register and pay for one course at a time.

* Note: cost of tuition does not include cost of text books.

** There is also a one time $50.00 admission processing fee.

Course Completion Times: Students are permitted 10 weeks to complete an online course. This may be extended with the permission of the instructor. For all Symposium Courses, students are permitted up to a six month period for completion. Doctoral students are permitted one year for all Dissertation/Doctoral Project courses.
