SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to the Bachelor's degree program in Marketing Management offered by Breyer State University. You have made a wise decision to pursue study and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to practice in this growing management specialty. This area of specialty practice is growing all the time and many are using their skills to practice full or part time in this area of marketing. This practice specialty grows more important each day and many graduates of our program will have opportunities to acquire positions in marketing management. Obtaining the credential from a quality program is essential to capitalize on this career opportunity. You have made an excellent choice for your continuing education and skill attainment. I am sure you will be pleased with our degree program's course of study.

This is a guided independent study course. You will utilize a comprehensive text book that can be purchased directly online. Full ordering information and instructions are provided in the "Assignments" section of the online classroom for this course. The required textbook must be purchased in its "online" version so that you have access to the chapter quizzes and also full access to the chapter study guidelines. You may also elect to purchase the "hard copy" of the textbook as well.

Each chapter in the textbook has an accompanying "online" quiz of approximately ten questions. Taking the online quizzes is "voluntary," however, you are highly encouraged to take the quizzes as an added feature of learning the material. Upon completion of the online quiz, you receive an immediate score for your quiz and if any questions were answered inappropriately, the correct response with rationale is provided.

The online version of the textbook also includes a Study Guide which is an excellent resource for learning and understanding the material presented. You are encouraged to utilize the online study guide. The online text also provides you with many linked words that can be clicked on for a full definition. This feature also aids in learning the material.

TIME FRAME: This comprehensive college-based course is developed to provide learners with an understanding of the principles and foundations of marketing and marketing management. A high school diploma is required for admission to this course of study. This course is a foundational course in the degree curriculum. This course is designed to be self-paced. Five (5) semester hours of college credits are awarded upon successful completion.

Book 1: Managerial Economics, 2E. Barry P. Keating & J. Holton Wilson. Atomic Dog.

TAKING EXAMS: Examinations are taken online via the Breyer State University website. Once you have registered for this program, you will receive instructions on accessing and taking the examinations. There are two (2) examinations for this course, a midterm exam and a final exam.

GETTING STARTED: As soon as you receive your textbook for the course; you may begin your course of study. Below is the program course outline. Be sure to review it as you progress through the course. Once you have registered for the course, your instructor will send to you a letter of introduction with more explanations and the course assignments.

GRADING: You will receive a letter grade, based on your over all score achievement. The grading scale is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
60-69%      = D
Below 60% = Fail

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

1). Develop an understanding of economics and the economic environment of business.
2). Understand that the economic environment in which business operates is complex and fluid.
3). Recognize that economics and business decisions involve selecting the best possible alternative from a number of potential actions.
4). Understand how to interpret and evaluate regression models and how to build mathematical models of business and economic relationships.
5). Realize that supply and demand are at the heart of business activity.
6). Gain an understanding of forecasting and the forecasting process.
7). Consider the rules for determining the quantity of various inputs to use in producing a firm's output under various circumstances.
8). Explore costs and their relevance to decision-making.
9). Understand how firms use market demand and production to make optimal output and pricing decisions.
10). Realize that any investor faces a complex array of financial assets from which to choose, each of which carries different risks.
11). Understand that all industries and individual corporations in the U.S. are subject to regulations or a regulatory agency of the federal government.
