SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: This is a ten-hour course in the curriculum for the PH.D. in Management program. It is my pleasure to partner with you for this course. The course is an overview with selective piercing to informational depths in areas like transnational culture, legal environments, trade, finance, governments, and operations. We will analyze issues, problems, and business implications and potential solutions to various cases and "cassettes". We will conduct critical evaluation current cases and illustrate application of proven strategies and tactics in the international business environment.

This course is designed to be a capstone course for the curriculum.

TIME FRAME: The course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course. Upon successful completion of this course, you will earn ten semester hours of credit.

TEXTBOOK: You have one required textbook:

Book 1: International Management Managing Across Borders and Cultures. Helen Dresky. Prentice Hall 2003: ISBN # 0130090530.

STUDENT EVALUATION AND GRADING SCALE: It is your responsibility to understand the syllabus, read the textbook and present ideas, and ask me for clarification if necessary. Evaluation measures application of
1) course ideas and concepts.
2) analytical and evaluation skills.
3) communication skills. The following factors will determine the final grade:

1). A comprehensive class project will account for 60% of the total grade (60 points) and is due during week 9. This case is listed in the text, beginning on page 528. This written Integrative case will be a minimum of twelve pages in length and in APA format. In terms of format, paper should include:

1). Abstract.
2). Table of Contents.
3). Body with appropriate references.
4). Conclusions.
5). References.

It must have focus and depth. Although length of paper will vary, it is expected that an average length of the paper should be a minimum of 20 pages.

2). There will be no mid-term or final examination.

3). The cases due on a weekly basis will account for 40% (40 points) of the total grade.

Grading Scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
Below 70% = Fail

14). Developing a Global Management Cadre.
15). Motivating and Leading.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to;

1). Identification and use of critical skill sets for effective management of people and processes in a global context are imperative for the twenty-first century.
2). Survey and understand actual management functions and behaviors necessary to develop global vision and management skills a organizational and interpersonal level.
3). Understand the role of a manager of any nationality by dealing with dynamic management issues in both foreign and diverse host environments.
4.) Understand cross culture management and competitive strategy in the context of global changes.

GENERAL POLICIES:

Late Work: Late work is not acceptable. All assignments must be completed during the assigned times. If a conflict exists and there is an acceptable justification for it, you are responsible to contact me about making up the work. Late assignments/works automatically lose one(1) letter grade. Make ups need to be completed within one week of the missed deadline.

Extra Credit: There is no extra credit work available.

Communications and feedback policy: Do not hesitate to communicate with me. Remember, I am here to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. I prefer communicating through email. However, I am also available for conversation by phone if you would like. Our classroom for this course has a "chat" room. I can meet with you one-on-one in the chat room at your request. From time to time, depending on how many students are enrolled in this course at a particular time, we will have some scheduled group chats. You will receive more detailed information if such chat sessions are scheduled. When emailing, always include your name and the course name in your email message to me, as I may not recognize your email name.

Feedback Policy: I respond to any e-mail within 24 hours or less. Weekends I reserve the right to wait until Monday to respond. If for any reason, I am not going to be available for a short period of time, I will notify you before hand so that no one is unclear about contacting me. I will provide a phone number for you to call if you want to talk with me.
