This is a six-hour course in the curriculum for the PH.D. in Management program. It is my pleasure to partner with you for this course. The course is an introduction to the theories and practices of transformational leadership and it is a study of cause and effect of management strategies and tactics. We will analyze identification of issues, problems, and future business implications. We will conduct critical analyses of various leadership models and prepare the learner for application of theories and innovation.
The course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course. Upon successful completion of this course, you will earn six semester hours of credit.
You have one required textbook:
Book 1: Transformational and Charismatic Leadership: The Road Ahead. Aviolio, Bruce J. and Francis J. Yammarino. Amsterdam: JAI Press, 20020, ISBN # 0762309628.
It is your responsibility to understand the syllabus, read the textbook and present ideas, and ask me for clarification if necessary. Evaluation measures application of:
1). Course ideas and concepts.
2). Analytical and evaluation skills.
3). Communication skills.
The following factors will determine the final grade:
1). A CLASS PROJECT will account for 40% of the total grade (40 points) and is due before week 10. This is a written project on a topic of your choice that is related to the course. The project topic must be cleared through me no later than week 2. The paper is to use primary as well as secondary data and to follow behavioral and social science design. Paper must be written according to APA style. In terms of format, paper should include:
a). Table of Contents.
b). Body with appropriate references.
c). Conclusions.
d). References.
Topic must be applied in nature. It must have focus and depth. Although length of paper will vary, it is expected that an average length of the paper should be from five to six pages. Some may term this a "position paper."
2). MID-TERM EXAM will account for 30% (30 points) of the total grade and be given during week 5. It covers Part I, Part II, and Part III. Pages 3 through 283 of the text will be used.
3). FINAL EXAM will account for 30% (30 points) of the total grade and be given during week 10. It covers Parts IV and Part V. Pages 287 through 406 will be used.
Both exams short responses and short essay questions.
Grading Scale for this course is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail

15). The role motivation theories of organizational leadership.
16). Four phenomenologically determined social processes of organizational leadership: further support for the construct of transformational leadership.
17). The Road Ahead.
18). Forecasting organizational leadership: from back (1967) to the future (2034).
19). Reflections, closing thoughts, and future directions.
Late Work: Late work is not acceptable. All assignments must be completed during the assigned times. If a conflict exists and there is an acceptable justification for it, you are responsible to contact me about making up the work. Late assignments/works automatically lose one(1) letter grade. Make ups need to be completed within one week of the missed deadline.
Extra Credit: There is no extra credit work available.
Communications and Feedback Policy: Do not hesitate to communicate with me. Remember, I am here to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. I prefer communicating through email. However, I am also available for conversation by phone if you would like. Our classroom for this course has a "chat" room. I can meet with you one-on-one in the chat room at your request. From time to time, depending on how many students are enrolled in this course at a particular time, we will have some scheduled group chats. You will receive more detailed information if such chat sessions are scheduled. When emailing, always include your name and the course name in your email message to me, as I may not recognize your email name.
Feedback Policy: I respond to any e-mail within 24 hours or less. Weekends I reserve the right to wait until Monday to respond.
