SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course examines the fundamental principals of research design focusing on the latest research aspects used by researchers and private enterprises.

Emphasis is placed on the practical methods used for obtaining primary and secondary data and the principals involved in gathering and analyzing data.

This course is intended to introduce you to the theory and practical skills in modern research and analysis. During this course, you will learn through interactive online sessions, discussions and case studies about research.

By the time you finish this course, you should have a good understanding of the challenges international business and international marketing are facing today.

TIMEFRAME: This is course is worth five semester hours. You have ten weeks to complete this course.

TEXTBOOKS: The follow book is required for this course.

Book 1: Research Methods in the Social Sciences. David Nachmias and Chava Nachmias, New York. St Martins Press, 1992. 6th edition. ISBN# 1572599294.

EXAMINATIONS: The mid-term examination (open-ended questions) must be taken on the fifth week of this the course.

The final examination (open-ended questions) must be taken on the tenth week of this course.

Both exams are programmed and are located in the online classroom for this course. All exams are closed book. You will have one day to complete their exam, once they access it from the virtual classroom. To access the exam, you must send me an email and request to have access to the exam. To access the exam, you need to come into the virtual classroom, click exams and click on the exam you are taking. You will need their User ID and PASSWORD to access the exam. The exam will appear on your computer screen. Once you access the exam, you have 24 hours to submit your answers. The program provides me the exact date and time that you accessed the exam. The program also notifies me of the exact date and time that you submitted your answers.

METHODOLOGY: Online classes will consist of lectures, online assignments, case analyses, and final research project. You are responsible for all assigned reading (lecture handouts, case study analyses, and project assignments).

Hand-outs will be provided by me.

ASSIGNMENTS: For this course, you will work on two research assignments. You have one week to complete each of them.

You need to closely read the questions indicated in assignments and answer them as precisely as possible - not straying from the topic. Otherwise you will be asked to RE-DO them.

COURSE PROJECT: The final research project will use practical methods of obtaining primary and secondary data and also will incorporate results of both assignments.

EVALUATION:

Course Research Assignment 1 - 20%
Course Research Assignment 2 - 20%
Midterm                                      - 30%
Final                                           - 30%

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
Below 70% = D or an F - Both constitute the failure of the course.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: I hold a Masters of Science in Project & Systems Management, a Masters of Science in Engineering, and a Bachelor of Theology.

I am an E-commerce/Marketing consultant with the Montreal - based consulting service Gestion Reseau d'Affaires and I also teach E-commerce/E-business and Marketing classes at Concordia University in Montreal.
