Introduction

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Natural Health Care Protocols I NHC-630, a 5 semester-hour course. The human body consists of 10 body systems. This course will address the following systems: Immune System; Infections; Glandular System; Anti-Aging; Integumentary System [Skin, Hair, Teeth, Nails, Eyes, Ears].

The Immune System fights off disease-causing microorganisms and engineers the healing process. It the key to fighting everything from a minor cut, fatigue and allergies to cancer, AIDS, and every other disease process and infection. An infection results when the body is invaded by a pathogenic agent, also known as a microorganism. The origin of every infection is either viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic. It multiplies and spreads and is usually accompanied by inflammation. Any infection that is untreated and left to breed eventually leads to blood poisoning, and ultimately death. Common disorders of the immune system include cancer, AIDS, allergies, colds and flu.

The Glandular System involves hundreds of hormones and glands throughout the body. Glands are organs that secrete mucous or serum, such as mammary, lymph, salivary, endocrine, pineal, pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, thymus and adrenal. Hormones are chemical substances produced by glands and are pertinent to the function of the gland. Common disorders of the glandular system include diabetes, thyroid disease, hormonal imbalance and adrenal exhaustion.

The aging process is closely linked to the health of the immune system. A weakened immune system results in premature aging symptoms, including gray hair, wrinkles, brown skin spots, stooped posture, tremors, shaky voice, slow mobility, poor memory, senility, poor nutrient absorption, joint disorders, hardening of the arteries, disease susceptibility and much more.

The Integumentary System involves the skin, hair, teeth, nails, eyes and ears. The body prioritizes this system as the least important of all body systems because these are not vital organs that are pertinent to life, such as are the cardiovascular, respiratory, brain and nervous systems. Therefore the skin, hair, teeth, nails, eyes and ears are the last organs to receive nourishment. However, the health of these external organs of the Integumentary System tends to reflect the overall health of the internal organs.

Common disorders of the integumentary system include hair thinning, poor vision, brittle nails and acne.
