Welcome to the Master of Science in Nursing
(MSN) degree
program in offered by Breyer State University. This course, Roles
and Concepts in
Advance Practice Nursing, will provide the student with theoretical
understanding of the
advance practice nursing role, as it has evolved over time. The
course will evaluate past
and current trends in advance practice nursing, as well as the
trends within in the
healthcare system that have influenced advance practice nursing
specifically relating to
issues of finance, legislation, ethics, education, collaboration
and scope of practice.
This
is a six-semester hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks
of
time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course
successfully by the end of
the ten-week period. You should be cognizant of the ten week time
frame, as you
plan and pace your studies. It is rare that extensions of time
are permitted, unless you
have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course,
you will be awarded
six semester hours of credit.
There
is one (1) required textbook for this course.

Examinations are taken online via the Breyer State University.
Students can gain access to the exam room for this class by contacting
me
directly, who will grant to you to access classroom. You will
be granted
access to the exam once for each exam. You will be given three
hours to take the
exam for the course. There will be one exam for this class. The
exam will be an essay
exam and will taken at the end of the course of study. The exam
will count for 40% of
your total grade.
You will be
assigned to write one paper for this
course. The specifics regarding the paper can be found in the
classroom for this course.
The paper will count for 40% of the students total grade. Papers
are to follow APA
format.
You
will be assigned to complete a literature review on
an assigned topic related to advance practice nursing. Specifics
about the review can be
found in the classroom for this course. The literature review
will count for 20% of your total grade.
The grading for this
course is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail
Communication for this course is done via email, regular mail,
chat room talks, or by telephone. You are expected to maintain
contact with me on a regular basis. Regular communication is essential,
since you are directing the pace of their study. I will provide
feedback to you regarding your progress after completion of assigned
work.
Richard A. Pessagno, MSN, APRN, BC is your
instructor. Mr. Pessagno has over eighteen years of professional
nursing experience. He
was worked in a variety of clinical areas including hospice, oncology,
AIDS care and
psychiatric nursing. Mr. Pessagno was educated as an Clinical
Nurse Specialist/Advance
Practice Nurse in psychiatric-mental health nursing. He has developed
a strong
knowledge base of advance practice nursing through his participation
in local, state and
national organizations. He is a certified psychiatric-mental health clinical nurse specialist,
as well as a certified group psychotherapist,
Post-masters Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner,
and a grief therapist.

completion of this course, you will be able to:
1.) Articulate and identify how healthcare policy has impacted
and changed the
evolution of advance practice nursing.
2.) Examine the healthcare delivery system as it effects and
influences the evolution of
advance practice nursing.
3.) Evaluate how the manage care system has effected advance
practice nursing.
4.) Identify various roles and practice settings for applications
of advance practice
nursing.
5.) Evaluate how insurers, healthcare finance and national
budgeting initiatives have
impacted advance practice nursing.
6.) Examine how nursing research, nursing theory and nursing
education influence and
effect change in advance practice nursing.
7.) Identify the cultural and ethical factors that impact advance
practice nursing.
