Consistent with the role of the Master's prepared nurse, this course is designed to help the learner develop expertise in assessing a client holistically, encompassing all dimensions of assessment. Spiritual assessment is often done inadequately, if at all. Through thorough assessment of spiritual needs and appropriate intervention, the nurse can assist the client to reach maximal levels of wellness.
This is a six-semester hour course. This course is allotted ten weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the ten week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your text book(s) have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded six semester hours of credit.

You must achieve at least a 70% score to pass this examination.
The grading scale for this competency examination is:
90-100% = A
89-80% = B
79-70% = "PASS"
Below-70% = Fail
Time Limit & Administration of Examination: You have 4 hours to complete this examination. The examination is taken online at the university website.
Exam Re-takes: If a score of 70% is not achieved on the examination, you will have an opportunity to complete independent study course work to receive credits.
Communication for this course is done via email, regular mail, or by telephone. You are expected to maintain contact with me on a regular basis. Regular communication is essential, since you are directing the pace of their study. I will provide feedback to you regarding your progress after completion of assigned work. Dominick L. Flarey, Ph.D, MBA, RN,CS, FACHE, is President of Breyer State University. He holds a BSN degree, a Masters in Business Administration, a Masters in Health Science Education, and PhDs in Nursing Administration and Management. He is a Registered Nurse and a Certified and Licensed Adult Nurse Practitioner. He has held positions as Associate Administrator Patient Care, Chief Operating Officer, and Administrator in acute care. He has also held positions with several national health care consulting firms and has conducted many administrative consulting projects. He is also a Certified Specialist in Legal Nurse Consulting and continues to consult on medical malpractice cases across the country. He has taught many seminars related to case management over the past 8 years. He also practiced as a case management consultant in a national health care consulting practice.
Dr. Flarey is the past Editor-in-Chief of a journal in Healthcare Law, Ethics & Regulation. He lectures extensively across the country on management and clinical issues in health care, as well as law and ethics. He is certified in Nursing Administration Advanced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives.
He is the co-author/editor of 7 texts books in health care, and has authored over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
