NRS 535

Breyer State University
Instructor: Dale Mueller, EdD, RN

SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to this course on Reflective Practice, a graduate level course in the Nursing Education Track of the MSN program. The nursing educator will find reflective practice techniques to be applicable as an instructional technique in the classroom and also as an enhancement to professional growth in clinical practice.

Whether the nurse educator is planning to incorporate the content of this class in a traditional education setting, or whether these techniques will be applied by nurses in clinical practice, this course will provide the necessary background and preparation for either of these applications.

The use of reflection in education and professional growth is not new. This technique of determining what is known, what remains to be discovered, and how awareness is established in the affective, cognitive and psychomotor domains of learning has been used in many creative endeavors throughout history. This course will identify how reflective processes can be used to augment and enhance nursing practice.

Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at any time, should you have questions about the readings or either of the two assignments that are due in this course. I trust this will be a meaningful and reflective journey for you, the nurse educator, and for your future students in the realm of nursing and those colleagues, clients and communities who will benefit from advanced nursing practice.
