Welcome to the Master of Science in Nursing! You elected to major in Emergency and Trauma Nursing. This track will equip you with advanced knowledge to prepare you to embark the challenges of health care delivery systems. The MSN - Emergency and Trauma Nursing track will prepare its graduates to provide specialized care to critically ill and injured patients in the emergency and trauma departments and/or trauma care units.
Time is truly an important factor in the care of emergency and trauma patients. Therefore, this specialty track is designed to assist students to exercise critical thinking skills to anticipate patient's immediate needs and demands in the emergent and critical phases of patient's clinical course.
The acuity and complexity of nursing practice in diverse settings continue to grow. As a result, Emergency and Trauma Nurses are faced with challenges of varying degrees, from practice issues and health care system delivery intricacies. To effectively and adequately prepare a confident and competent Nurse or Nurse Specialist, the Emergency and Trauma Nursing track will focus on the comprehensive requirements and understanding of health care environment and patients who seek assistance in the emergency and trauma services.
Essential practice patterns in emergency and trauma, integrates clinical and non-clinical practitioners to deliver appropriate, efficient, and effective care to health care consumers. I expect to broaden your knowledge and strengthen your aptitude and competency in emergency and trauma nursing.
The complexities of the health care delivery system challenge the nursing profession to adapt to its demands. And to be successful in that endeavor, a nurse must acquire a broad knowledge in nursing leadership and management. A Nurse Leader has to be competent to tackle issues in nursing services and the associated interdisciplinary functions and generate productive results. A Nurse Leader beginner or not, is faced with convoluted concerns from various areas of patient care and management. From staffing issues to provision of care, treatment, and services problems, conflict resolutions, assessment and evaluation of competencies, needs assessment, performance appraisals, and so on. This course will enable you to demonstrate effective strategic assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care system and the disciplines that interact with nursing service.
Evidence-based practice in nursing and healthcare is evidently the basis of progress and development in provision of care, treatment, and services. Researchers are diligently working to provide us with current scientific and technological knowledge to be able to provide care to our patients appropriately, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
Nursing provides continuous monitoring of patient condition. Therefore, it is imperative for us to keep current in trends and issues related to our profession. Evidence-based practice in nursing and healthcare grants us the ability to recognize and understand concurrent demands and needs of our patients.
This course will grant you six (6) semester hours. You are given ten (10) weeks to complete all requirements of the course. The initial date of study is the day you register for the course, or the date you notified me that your textbook has arrived. An extension is granted through a letter of excuse addressed to me.
