SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: This is the Doctoral Project Course in curriculum for the Degree Doctor of Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS). In this course, the doctoral candidate will complete a doctoral level project, or may elect to complete a more traditional dissertation. The candidate will select a topic related to your degree specialty and present this topic to me for approval. The candidate will then complete a project or dissertation proposal and upon approval move forward to complete the project or dissertation. There are a wide variety of possibilities for you to select. The goal is completion of a presentation that qualifies the candidate to be conferred the degree and verifies the ability to work and practice at the doctoral level. Upon enrollment in the course, you are provided with complete guidelines for proposal development and dissertation completion. Guidelines for projects are also presented. You will also have a final exit exam/interview with me once the dissertation is approved. You are allotted twelve months time to complete your dissertation. This time period may be extended with my consent. Upon successful completion of this course, the candidate will be conferred the degree: Doctor of Nursing Science.

PRE-REQUISITE: This is a doctoral level course. You must have completed all of the Nursing Symposium Courses in the DNS Degree curriculum, before beginning this course.

This is an independent study course with one-to-one faculty mentoring.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Dominick L. Flarey, PhD, DCH, MBA, RN,CS,- professor of nursing and President of Breyer State University. He is a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner, Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse, and a Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and has authored /co-authored seven texts in nursing. He speaks nationally on many clinical and administrative topics related to nursing, including case management, psychiatric-mental health, and health care law and ethics. He is also certified in Nursing Administration Advanced, and is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1). Develop an Effective Project or Research Proposal.
2). Present a Doctoral Level Project or Dissertation to meet degree requirements.
3). Contribute significantly to your own learning process.
4). Take higher-level responsibilities for independent learning.
5). Acquire skills and motivation for lifelong higher-level learning and achievements.
6). Acquire a higher level of overall knowledge and skill development in a focused area of professional nursing practice.
7). Evaluate attainment of all defined goals for the Doctoral Project Course.
8). Critically evaluate experiences of independent, self-directed learning.
9). Successfully Complete an Oral Defense of Your Project/Dissertation.
10) Abstract Knowledge and Skills Gained in the DNS Degree Program.
