SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Legal Analysis and Writing for Paralegals, a bachelors level course in the curriculum for the Bachelors in Legal Studies Program at Breyer State University.

The Legal Analysis and Writing for Paralegals course represents a legal course in which basic skills necessary to write various legal documents and analyze those documents will be covered.

The overall goal of the course is to introduce a paralegal student to draft and review legal documents as well as provide the basic tools to successfully work with an attorney. The course will provide a practical skills an include exercises designed to equip the paralegal student with knowledge of various legal analytical skills.

TIME FRAME: This is an eight-hour course and is allotted 10 weeks to complete. You must complete all requirements by the end of the 10-week period. The first day of the week will begin the day you register for the course or in the alternative on the day you notify the instructor that you are in receipt of the textbook and are ready to begin the class. Please be cognizant of the time frames listed in the syllabus. Further please be advised that unless circumstances warrant an extension of the time frames listed in this section, all assignments and exams are to be completed on time and submitted to the instructor upon completion. Upon successfully completing all requirements of this course you will be awarded eight semester credit hours toward your bachelors degree.

EXAMINATIONS: There are two examinations for this course, a mid-term and a final exam. The mid-term and final exams cover the materials in the text,

The first exam will be a midterm and must be taken by the end of the fifth week in the course and the final examination must be taken by the end of the tenth week in the course.

GRADING: The grading scale for the course is as follows:

90-100%    - A
80-89%      - B
70-79%      - C
Below 70% - Fail
