Real Estate for Paralegals Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies PL 220 Breyer State University SYLLABUS COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Real Estate for Paralegals, a bachelors level course in the curriculum for the Bachelors in Legal Studies Program at Breyer State University. The Real Estate for Paralegals course is one, which provides and overview of real property including deeds, liens an other encumbrances on real property. Further an examination will be made of contracts for the sale of real property and issues involving titles, mortgages and financing issues. The overall goal of the course is to give a paralegal student the necessary background in real estate to successfully work with an attorney. The course will provide practical skills designed to give the paralegal student working knowledge of the real property system and how to evaluate issues surrounding the transfer of real property. TIME FRAME: This is an eight-hour course and is allotted ten weeks to complete. You must complete all requirements by the end of the ten week period. The first day of the week will begin the day you register for the course or in the alternative on the day you notify the instructor that you are in receipt of the textbook and are ready to begin the class. Please be cognizant of the time frames listed in the syllabus. Further please be advised that unless circumstances warrant an extension of the time frames listed in this section, all assignments and exams are to be completed on time and submitted to the instructor upon completion. Upon successfully completing all requirements of this course you will be awarded eight semester credit hours toward your bachelors degree. TEXTBOOK: There is one required text for this course. Book 1: The Essentials of Real Estate Law. Slossberg, Delmar Learning, Clifton Park, NY: 1999. ISBN # 0-7668-0395-3.
EXAMINATIONS: There are two examinations for this course, a mid-term and a final exam. The mid-term and final exams cover the materials in the text, The first exam will be a midterm and must be taken by the end of the fifth week in the course and the final examination must be taken by the end of the tenth week in the course. GRADING: The grading scale for the course is as follows: 90-100% - A COMMUNICATION: You should note that I remain open to all communication between you and I.
