SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Project Implementation and Evaluation, a Masters Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Master of Project Management. I am pleased to instruct you in this course.

This course focuses on project implementation and evaluation. You will also study materials that prepare you for the Project Management Professional Certification exam. Earning this certification demonstrates your knowledge of and experience in project management methodology and practices.

TIME FRAME: This is a five-semester hour course. This course is allotted 10 weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the 10-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded five semester hours of credit.

TEXTBOOKS: There are two (2) required textbooks for this course.

Book 1: Preparing for the Project Management Professional Certification Exam. Michael W. Newell. The American Management Association: 2005. ISBN # 0-8144-0859-1.

Book 2: A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. Project Management Institute: 2000. ISBN # 1-880410-23-0.

EXAMINATIONS: There are two examinations for this course, a mid-term exam and a final exam. The mid-term covers the first four chapters of the Newell textbook, and will be written in the form of a paper. The final exam covers the last four chapters of the Newell textbook, and will be written in the form of a paper. The details for these papers are listed in the Written Assignments section of the syllabus.

GRADING: The grading scale for this course is as follows:

90-100%    = A
80-89%      = B
70-79%      = C
Below 70% = Fail

The approximate weighting of the grades are as follows:

Midterm exam       - 50%
Final Exam            - 50%
Total                    - 100%

COMMUNICATION: You are encouraged to communicate with me. I am available as a teacher, coach, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. Primarily, communication is through email. However, I am also available for conversation by telephone if you would like. Our classroom for this course has a "chat" room. I am also very willing to meet with you one-on-one in the chat room at your request. From time to time, depending on how many students are enrolled in this course at a particular time, we will have some scheduled group chats. You will receive more detailed information at the time such chat sessions are scheduled. Please keep my email address handy so that you can contact me whenever necessary. ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR: I, Grace Onodipe, PhD, MA, BSc., currently teach graduate courses at Breyer State University. I hold a degree in Ph.D. in AED Economics and a Masters and Bachelors in Economics. I have been teaching for the past seven years at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I am originally from Nigeria and have lived in the United States for almost 10 years.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1). Describe the nine knowledge areas generally accepted within the practice of project management.
2). Analyze and evaluate project performance.
3). Demonstrate proficiency in keeping a project on track.
4). Identify risks that might jeopardize a project.
5). Identify solutions to these risks.
