Welcome to Psychology 560: Tests and Measurements, a Master's Level psychology course. I am pleased to be your instructor for this course.
This course will introduce you to psychological testing with regard to relevant theories, applications, issues and ideas. When you finish this course, you will have an understanding of:
- Reliability and validity that is relevant to test construction.
- Uses of testing in a variety of situations to include clinics, psychiatric units, organizational.
- The major legal and ethical issues related to psychological testing
- How to examine major instruments used in measuring intelligence, personality, achievement, neurological and aptitude.
This is a six-semester hour course. This course is allotted 10 weeks of time. You must complete all of the assignments and requirements for the course successfully by the end of the course by the 10 weeks. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course or the day which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived and you are ready to begin your studies. Please remain cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded six semester hours of credit.
There are two required textbooks for this course.

Book 2: 101 Exercises in psychological testing and measurement. Cohen, R.J. Mountain View CA: Mayfield Publishing Company.
Optional/Not Required: American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association National Council on Measurement in Education, Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing.

There are two major projects for this course. The first project will be ready for you to work on during the fifth week and is to be emailed to me by the sixth week. The second project counts as your final exam and will be due the final week of the course.
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail

You are encouraged to communicate with me on a regular basis and when/if you have any questions. I am available as your instructor and mentor and my primary goal is to help you achieve your goals in this course. I can be reached via email, meeting time in the chat room, or by telephone. I, Evelyn Giddens, MA, PhD currently teach graduate courses at Breyer State University and local colleges in North Carolina. I have a MA in Psychology Management, and will have completed my doctorate in Educational Psychology. I have authored four books, three on adoption and one on the effects of mental illness.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
1). Understand and describe the procedures and theories behind test construction and validation.
2). Understand how psychological tests are interpreted.
3). Look at issues which arise in the use of testing.
4). Construct a psychological test.
